Have you ever noticed that when you buy a new computer or install a new operating system, it works much faster and calmer than when you use it for half a year, torment yourself with constant climbing on the Internet or constant installation and removal of programs? This all happens because the computer registry becomes clogged over time, becomes cumbersome, and every day it takes much more time to complete tasks to find the necessary information and use it.
So what is a registry in a computer?
Just as in every computer the processor and RAM are a kind of device brain, so in the software part, in every operating system there is a brain. This brain - the registry - a database of programs, drivers, devices - already connected and those that are periodically connected, the settings of installed programs and even data about files and folders on the computer. In a word, all the information that helps the system to work stably, and also to know what and in what form should be launched.
Why does the computer slow down?
What is the registry in the computer, not all PC users know. However, during each of our work with the computer, the data in the registry is constantly updated, after some time this information grows so much that the computer begins to respond longer, load slower and “slow down” more and more. This also happens because many users do not think about how to correctly remove the program. They do not know or do not know how, and instead of the usual uninstaller, they delete unnecessary data, sending it directly to the trash. Folders with files disappear, but the data about what they were, their settings, remains in the registry - now as garbage.
We found out what the registry in the computer is and why it is needed. Now it’s clear that not only the hardware in the computer, but also the system periodically needs cleaning. You can entrust this to a specialist, or you can do it yourself by pressing the key combination "Win + R" and in the window that opens, enter "regedit". The next window will be divided into two parts. The left side is the structure of the entire registry, consisting of five root folders, and the right is the data value. Such a simple combination of letters makes it easy to find where the registry is on the computer.
What is a registry?
The names of all key folders begin with "HKEY" and specifically indicate their contents:
- CLASSES_ROOT - contains data on all types of files in the computer and on implemented COM servers.
- CURRENT_USER - stores information about the work of the user whose profile is currently running.
- LOCAL_MACHINE - the most informative folder that carries a database of all drivers, programs and settings.
- USERS - here is information related to all users of the computer.
- CURRENT_CONFIG - this folder contains information about all devices and drivers that are currently running.
How to clean the computer registry ?
Now, knowing what information is contained in the folders, you can clean the registry manually. But do not forget that in this way you can disable Windows, so we recommend using special programs for cleaning. There are a lot of them on the Web, and determining which is the best is difficult, as some recommend "Jv16 PowerTools", others consider it "CCleaner". I have been using both the TuneUp Utilites for several years. It not only helps to clean the registry, but also organizes all the computer data.
