Hibernation is a type of sleep mode for PC

Hibernation is
A personal computer at a time when it is not used can either be completely turned off or it may be in sleep mode. Hibernation is a form of waiting state. It appeared relatively recently and is available on Windows 7 and 8. What are the advantages of hibernation and when is it profitable to use this mode? We will talk about this in this article.

What is the point?

Hibernation is the state of a computer in standby mode in which the device consumes a minimum of electricity. In this case, all processes that were started in the system before putting it into this mode are saved. Let's look at what happens with the PC when the hibernation state is activated. At the moment when the user selects the above mode through the "Start" (or when you press the power button), or when the transfer is planned by the system under certain circumstances (for example, when the computer was idle for more than 10 minutes), all programs that were active and editable documents are instantly stored in the computer's memory.

How to disable hibernation mode?
Their shutdown does not occur, that is, when you resume work, they will all be open. During hibernation, the system freezes with its preliminary preservation, and therefore there is no need for power supply. Of course, the computer continues to use electricity, but in negligible amounts.

How is hibernation turned on and off?

This mode can be activated either by the user himself or the system automatically, if the necessary parameters are set. Hibernation mode is available on Windows 7 and 8. By going to the "Start" menu, next to the shutdown button, you can see several additional options for states in which you can transfer the PC. Among them are "sleep" and "hibernation." The user just needs to click on the desired item and activate one or another mode. How to disable hibernation mode? To exit the system from this state, you just need to perform some action on the keyboard or with the mouse. Recovery of all previously running processes is fast. In order to set this mode to automatically start , it will be necessary to go to the “Control Panel” and select the “Power Options” section. In it, you can specify after what period of time the PC will be "euthanized". The user may want to exclude the hibernation mode from the Start menu. This can be done as follows:

hibernation

  • run the command line (this must be done on behalf of the computer administrator);
  • prescribe the command "powercfg -h off".

Summary

Hibernation is a universal way to preserve the battery level (if we are talking about a laptop), while not losing data. There is no need to disconnect the device, just activate the above function. A similar mode can be used on a regular desktop computer, if you need to leave it for a while. The main difference from the sleep mode is the preservation of the states of all processes that were active in the system at the time the “wait” was started, which is an extremely convenient property.
