History

The project of the station appeared back in 1934. Since then, he has changed several times. The construction almost led to the demolition of the Church of St. Nicholas, which is located above one of the halls of the underground facility. In 1944, builders gathered to destroy the temple, and already demolished part of it, when it was decided to preserve this structure, due to the assignment of the status of an architectural monument to it.

The image of the station just built was preserved on stamps of the USSR Post of 1950, worth 40 kopecks and 1 ruble. From the images, we can conclude that the main hall has not changed much since then.

Shallow niches with military-themed patterns were made on the sides of the aisle. In the center of each there is a large medallion depicting Red Army fighters from different types of troops: tankmen, sailors, pilots, infantrymen, artillerymen, partisans, etc. You can find out what kind of troops this or that image is from the inscription below. In the lower part of the pylons, white marble was used as decoration, and on the base - black with white veins. A white embossed tile is used to design the track walls. There are also marble columns. In the decoration of the floor, slabs of gray granite and black gabbro were used, as well as inserts in the form of star images in the frame, which are made of red granite.

Architects did a good job on chandeliers. They are multi-track, twisted, with blue glass vases. Previously, at the southern end of the station was a composition in the form of a sculpture of Stalin, surrounded by workers and children, under which were marble tablets depicting important Soviet cities. Later it was replaced with a portrait of Lenin, and during the construction of the transition they were removed for technical reasons.
