How long does it take to drive around St. Petersburg? The length of the Ring Road in St. Petersburg

At 150 meters more than 142 kilometers - the full length of the ring road in St. Petersburg. Besides the fact that this was a long-awaited and important improvement of the St. Petersburg road system, the project was famous for its high costs, ships, scandals and mutual claims at different levels.

About a billion rubles are annually spent on servicing a key St. Petersburg highway. However, with the increasing number of vehicles, environmental problems and congestion in the roads of the Northern capital required solutions.

The ring road of St. Petersburg made it possible to travel to remote parts of the city without overcoming a large number of traffic lights and many restrictions.

On August 12, 2011, after thirty years of construction, flood protection structures were put into operation, and the A118 road was finally ringed. The length of the Ring Road in St. Petersburg was not 116.75 ground, but 142.15 kilometers, and two information portals for motorists - Kolesa.ru and BN.ru - organized a joint check-in along the highway in order to find out the time for which you can get to the opposite part of the city on the newly accessible route.

Two crews left almost simultaneously from the arrival at the Ring Road in the Pulkovo area and moved in opposite directions to meet in the north - the end point was Mega Parnas.

The first route ran through the eastern part of the St. Petersburg Ring Road, 44.5 km long, and took 35 minutes, the second β€” the western route to the north β€” was more than doubled β€” 98.5 km. It took 55 minutes to overcome it.

The conclusion was made about the undoubted convenience of the road and the reduction of time in the absence of the need to drive through the city. However, the choice for this eastern direction was considered inappropriate. If there is no other way to reduce the time for detour of St. Petersburg for yourself, the length of the ring road, if necessary, can be reduced by using the western high-speed diameter. Payment for this section of the track is fully offset by the saved amount of fuel.

The consequences of accidents and road works can significantly increase travel time. The first, as statistics have shown, occur mainly due to non-compliance with traffic conditions and speeding, repairs are reported in advance on specialized information portals. Therefore, it is better to ask at least this side of the issue in advance if the travel time is critical for you, especially during the season of road construction.

Basic Rules

The Ring Road of St. Petersburg is a federal state public highway. The speed limit is 110 kilometers per hour. You can’t drive faster on both free and paid sections of the track.

There is a Western high-speed diameter, where for a fee you can reduce the distance, move more freely and you can’t drive too slowly (forbidden to drive vehicles slower than 40 km / h). The construction of the eastern analogue begins.

There is no place for mopeds, bicycles and tractors in all of the 142 kilometers of the Ring Road. As well as for pedestrians.

Turning is possible only to the right. Left shift is carried out only within the limits of its direction.

In total, 26 multilevel transport interchanges were built on the highway, the division of which with a width of 15-32 meters varies from 4 to 8 lanes.

The right part of the route is intended for emergency vehicles and is prohibited for use by other vehicles.

Traffic safety

The speed limit is limited by fixing traffic to automatic security cameras and radars.

Opposite streams in the direction are divided, it simply does not work out to the oncoming lane.

External fences are designed to prevent pedestrians and animals from entering the highway.

The turning angles of the road are very wide - smooth bends allow you to not slow down and move safely in a stable rhythm throughout the course.

How it all began

The decision that the ring road around Leningrad was necessary was made back in 1966, when the future scale of the city’s traffic flows was not even imagined.

The actual construction of the new highway began in 1998. The first section of the St. Petersburg Ring Road, 24 km long, built between Gorskaya (access to the highway in the dam area) and Aspen Grove, was opened in 2001.

By the end of 2002, the next section was commissioned - before the congress on Engels Avenue.

In 2004, the work was twice suspended due to financial problems. However, December was marked by the opening of a non-movable cable-stayed bridge across the Neva. Its length is almost a kilometer, and the height of the pylons of the Bolshoi Obukhov bridge is 120 meters.

The completion of the dam allowed the completion of the KAD St. Petersburg project - an underwater tunnel in Kronstadt was completed and opened for traffic.

Workdays of builders KAD St. Petersburg

The hard physical labor of ordinary builders is one side of the issue.

The working moments of the construction of the St. Petersburg Ring Road are full of scandals, lawsuits and mutual claims.

Several contractors were replaced - someone accused the directorate for the construction of a transport bypass of St. Petersburg, which led the work, of not paying the fee of the proper amount. Other companies themselves became defendants for the expenditure of public funds and poorly provided services. Even the directorate itself in 2011 was accused by the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation of overspending (all work cost almost 170 billion rubles).

In addition to the financial side, violations were noted in the field of environmental protection.

The quality of part of the services also caused dissatisfaction - although the primary court dismissed this claim. The case of kaleynost road, the guarantee for the coverage of which is 4 years, and the operating rules do not provide for the use of studded tires and weather conditions, went to a higher court.

When to finally build

Simultaneously with the fact that on August 12, 2011, after thirty years of construction, flood protection structures were put into operation, the road was finally officially ringed, and the length of the ring road in St. Petersburg became 142.15 kilometers.

However, this did not mean the completion of work in full. Highway modernization is ongoing. In addition, rapid wear requires regular maintenance of the route, and the growing number of cars has led to the fact that even a project of this magnitude no longer meets the needs of a large city that is actively in contact with the major centers of our country and located abroad.

The construction of the second bypass road is not just actively discussed. They intend to lay it on the outer diameter from the first, the distance between them is planned to be 20 kilometers. True, in fact, it will not be a ring - it was decided to build the highway only on the ground, without affecting the dam.

Part of KAD St. Petersburg

The length of the first section of KAD2 in St. Petersburg has not yet been determined, and money for construction is not yet expected, but land is already being bought at its proposed borders, which leads to higher prices for the area in these zones.
