Breed history
The Budennovsky horse was bred in the 20-30 years of the last century in the USSR. The Don and the Black Sea breeds became its parent. Purebred English stallions were used to improve the racing qualities of these horses. Selection was carried out mainly at two stud farms: them. Budyonny and them. 1st Horse. The main goal of the work was to create a new breed for the Red Army command staff. The Budennovsky horse was officially registered on November 15, 1948. The basis was the corresponding resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
The Budennovsky breed of horses was bred, the description of which we will give below in the article, first under the leadership of the former royal horse breeders, and then officers of the Red Army. Breeding work at that time was an extremely difficult task. After the imperialist and civil wars, there were practically no horses in farms in the Don and the North Caucasus. The pedigree of animals in the few half-herds was determined by the preserved brands of owners, by the remains of documents, and sometimes simply by the recollections of former horse breeders. A special contribution to the development of a new Soviet race breed was made by Budyonny. From here, in fact, its name came.
The ancestors
A new Budennovsky breed of horses was bred, the opinion of which the athletes had developed simply excellent, mainly along the lines (along the stallions). However, at the same time, uterine herds of animals with the best qualities were created. About 100 thoroughbred stallions were used in breeding. However, only four producers became the founders of the new breed. These were purebred horses Kokas, Svets, Inferno and Pretty.
The Budennovskaya breed of horses is interesting, among other things, because in the process of breeding it did not use mating at all. At the same time, animals were kept mainly by cultural and herd technology. That is, large groups were formed according to various characteristics: gender, age, and intrabreed types. The ancestors of the best lines of the breed are considered to be the Budyonnovsky stallions of Beja, Bracelet, Chimkent and Codex.
The main characteristics of the breed
Why did the Budennovsky horses deserve such rave reviews from athletes all over the world? The main distinguishing feature of this breed is its large size (up to 164 cm at the withers) and some massiveness. This determines primarily its versatility. Three main types
The Budennovskaya breed of horses, the characteristics of which we examined above, according to the signs of the exterior, is divided into three large groups:

Content Features
The Budennovskaya breed of horses is bred today, usually by herd or large-group technology. The uterus is kept together with the young. Herds are grazed in confined spaces. Foals are weaned from mares in September. Moreover, all young growth born from February to May is removed from the herd. Then the foals are distributed in separate herds on the floor. Test
At the age of two, the best foals of the Budyonnovsk breed are tested at the hippodrome of the city of Rostov. Approximately 15-25% of horses are allowed to test. Running at a limit of more than 1 km allows you to select the best representatives of the breed. To date, all stallions-manufacturers of Russian stud farms have successfully passed this test. Selected mares of broodstock did not disappoint either. More than half of them successfully overcome trials with smooth jumps.
Success in the competition
The popularity and fame of the Budyonnovsk breed is explained, among other things, by the high results achieved by these horses at the hippodrome during various competitions. In smooth races, they are second only to representatives of a thoroughbred horse breed. These horses showed themselves well in distance runs. They also achieved good results in the steppe-chases. So, for example, the Budyonnovsk stallions Brev Boy and Surguch in the daily run went as much as 300 km. And Surf and Scrabble in the Great Pardubice steppe-chase became the winners in the rivalry with horses of purebred riding breed.
Modern Budyonnovskaya breed of horses: character
A distinctive feature of these stallions and mares are tolerance and complaisance. Without exception, athletes consider them also very smart. But sometimes Budyonnovsky horses may show some waywardness. The thing is that at the moment at the stud farms basically a line is drawn that leads from the Rubinchik stallion. And this horse was distinguished not only by its impeccable exterior and excellent racing qualities, but also by its somewhat ambiguous character. Even offspring from him were worth a lot of work for the breeders. But in the 50s of the last century, it was with the help of Rubin that it was possible to significantly improve the descendants of Bracelet, Codex, Bezh and Chimkent.
Disadvantages of the breed
There are many advantages to this breed. However, she has one small drawback. Budyonnovsky horses are monogamous. This means that they become very attached to their master and do not recognize anyone else. For a modern racehorse, this is considered a minus primarily due to the fact that a large number of personnel usually work with it.
The lack of breeding work is another reason why the Budyonnovsky breed has recently been somewhat inferior in popularity, for example, to the same German horses. A small minus of these horses is their sensitivity.
