History of creation

The Russian people proudly speak of the country's defenders who, at the cost of their lives, defeated the Nazis. Memorials dedicated to Soviet defender soldiers have been created across the country. Khabarovsk did not stand aside. In honor of the thirty-year victory over Germany, the Glory Square was built here. It is located in the very center of the city. The Glory Square rises on a hill that approaches the shores of the wide and powerful Amur. It adjoins Lenin Street, which is central in Khabarovsk.

The Glory Square is thought out so that in its center is a thirty-meter obelisk, consisting of three vertical reinforced concrete steles. They symbolize three decades of peaceful life, recall that fascist Germany was defeated by Soviet troops. The upper part of the created obelisk is decorated with a metal plate. It symbolizes a fluttering banner crowned with a five-pointed star. It recalls the feat of arms of civilians, who made inhuman efforts in the rear in order to help soldiers fighting the enemy on the fields of World War II. There is a hammer and sickle on the star, they are symbols of labor feat.

The Glory Square is a real place of pride for citizens. At the bottom of the stele there is a laurel branch. The names of 58 residents of the Khabarovsk Territory, who became the heroes of the Soviet Union, are carved in gold letters on it. On the other side of the stele, the names of six gentlemen of the Order of Glory, as well as the names of 61 Heroes of Socialist Labor are embossed.
