Evgeny Seleznev - one of the best Ukrainian football players

Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Seleznev was born on July 20, 1985 in the city of Makeevka, Donetsk region, where he started playing football professionally at the local Donbass Academy, and a few years later he joined the Donetsk Shakhtar, where he began his professional career.

Club career

In 2002, football player Yevgeny Seleznev made his first debut for the Pitmen's farm club, where he spent a total of about 6 years. After that he was leased to Kiev Arsenal, showing a good level of individual game. After that, he returned to Shakhtar again and signed a new contract, valid until 2013, but for Shakhtar Eugene was able to spend just one full season, winning almost all kinds of trophies with the club, including the UEFA Cup.

Seleznev in Shakhtar

Not wanting to put up with the rank of a reserve player, in 2009 Evgeni Seleznev signed a three-year agreement with Dnipropetrovsk Dnipro. In the debut season, Seleznev became the permanent leader of the team, scoring 13 goals in 27 matches, and the next year he became the top scorer of the Ukrainian championship, ahead of the leading strikers of the national championship.

The wonderful game of the Ukrainian striker made the leadership of Shakhtar re-buy the contract of Eugene. Returning to the old team did not prevent him from becoming the best goal-holder of the championship for the second year in a row and taking two main trophies - the championship and the Cup of Ukraine.

During the start of the championship, Evgeni Seleznev unexpectedly leaves the “orange-black” squad and again goes to the Dnipro. With the “Dnieper”, Eugene was able to win the silver medal of the championship, but he did not become the top scorer, losing the fight to his former teammate Luis Adriano.

Club registration changes

Season 14/15 was one of the best for Eugene in his career, when Dnipro reached the final of the Europa League in the European Cup campaign. The best match of this tournament was the semifinal match in Kiev, when in a tense struggle with the Italian “Napoli”, Evgeni Seleznev was able to score the winning goal and for the first time in the history of “Dnipro” to reach the finals of the second most important European tournament. Unfortunately, the main match, “Dnepr” still lost.

Immediately after the finals, serious financial difficulties began in Dnipro, because of which the main leaders began to leave the team. Evgeni Seleznev, despite delays in salary, still finished the first half of the season, but in February he moved to the Krasnodar “Kuban”.

After several months of playing in the Premier League, Eugene returned to Shakhtar again, but he could not play. For six months, he played in only 7 matches, so he urgently left the Donetsk team. From 2017 to today, Seleznev’s career takes place in the Turkish championship, where he was able to win the Turkish Cup and Super Cup with “Akhisar Belediyespor”.

He is a participant in two European Championships - in 2012 in Ukraine and in 2016 in France. If in the first tournament he did not spend a single minute on the field, then in the last tournament Seleznev played two matches, but this did not help Ukraine get into the playoffs.
