Self-defense weapons are considered civilian. It is a tool to help balance the forces between the attacker and the defender. It includes technical means that allow the owner to use them legally to protect their life and health.
Civil weapons for self-defense
A civilian weapon used for self-defense is one with which a person moves unhindered across the territory of the state of which he is a subject.
Self-defense weapons may require a license. If it is necessary, the citizen is obliged to take it with him to confirm the right to carry and store weapons. Civilian weapons exclude fire in bursts and cannot have a drum capacity exceeding 10 rounds.
Smoothbore Shortbore Weapon
Smoothbore weapons for self-defense are considered the most powerful. It is divided into several types:
- single-barrel single-shot;
- double-barreled;
- pump action;
- semi-automatic.
Semiautomatic and pump action guns are excellent for self-defense. You can determine which weapon is best for self-defense by comparing its characteristics.
Types of smoothbore weapons
IZH-43 K (trigger double-barreled shotgun) - one of the simplest types. It is quite effective. It can even be stored in a charged state, which is important for the defender. This shotgun is easy to handle, and compared to semi-automatic and pump action shotguns, it is more reliable. This model refers to intra-trigger ones, where the external triggers are springs for cocking, they are not real triggers.
The small-sized multiply-charged shotgun TOZ-106 of the twentieth caliber has a bolt lock. The model is compact, with a chromed shortened barrel and a folding butt. Has box-shaped quick-release shops. It is relatively inexpensive, but not of good quality. When using, problems may arise due to a tight shutter, and when reloading, skew and jamming of cartridges is possible. Sometimes a store falls out when fired. But all factory defects are easily corrected at home.
The 12-gauge TOZ-94 pump-action shotgun is also inexpensive and inherited a good design from its prototype. It is multi-purpose, it is used for self-defense as well. There are several modifications of it. A shotgun with a good fight, but the mechanisms do not always work reliably.
The 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun TOZ-187 is a semi-automatic, which has few similarities with its prototype. There are also disadvantages: the mechanisms do not always work reliably, because of this, there is sometimes a slight delay when firing. Therefore, although it is allowed for self-defense, a gun is still not very suitable.
The 12-gauge TOZ-194 pump-gun is more reliable than the TOZ-187 and TOZ-194. It is more comfortable and has a good design. And pump-action shotguns IZH-81 KM and IZH-81 are considered the most reliable. They are multi-purpose and perfect for self-defense. On the basis of IZH-81, another good model was developed - MP-133, which ensures safety when handling it.
A series of guns "Saiga-12" - semi-automatic. They have high reliability, are available in many versions: with a folding butt; aiming bar that can be adjusted; muzzle replaceable nozzles; trunks of various lengths.
The Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is very often used as a weapon for self-defense. It is multi-purpose, with many modifications that vary in barrel length, additional accessories, etc. It is considered expensive, but very reliable.
Rifle
Self-defense rifles were not previously common. But recently, deputies have introduced the issue of allowing citizens to use it for these purposes. Experts note that the complexity of handling it and other aspects do not affect the recognition of it as suitable for self-defense.
Airguns
Air pistols do not have a lot of power, but nevertheless they are used for self-defense. At the same time, they have an advantage, since gas-filled pistols can be purchased without a license, but provided that the citizen has reached the age of majority. However, there is a small hurdle to keep in mind. The use of airguns is not prohibited, but there is a ban on its wearing. Gas- filled weapons use carbon dioxide cylinders, which are attached to the fitting. Basically, the cylinder is located under the barrel or in the handle.
Being on sale, pneumatic weapons were originally intended for recreational and sports shooting at short distances. Pneumatic revolvers and pistols have a caliber of 4.5 mm, and basically have a muzzle energy of up to 7.5 J. But they do not sell more powerful weapons without registration. Moreover, each country has its own restrictions on the parameters of this type of weapon. Bullets weigh very little - about 0.5 g.
Pneumatic weapons for self-defense are inferior to traumatic pistols several times in the most important parameters: the mass of the bullet and its energy. The ball, which is released from airguns, cannot provide a strong blow, but nevertheless it is quite capable of piercing human skin. However, this is only provided that there is no tight clothing at the place of impact. A ball made of pneumatics can cause a little pain, but it can only pause a sober person. But being intoxicated - is unlikely.
If the defender shoots in the head, then the gas balloon will not pierce the skull, but if you miss and get into the eye, for example, thereby inflicting a severe injury to the attacker, you can end up in prison for exceeding the necessary defense.
Pneumatic weapons are sometimes unreliable, since the gas is in the spray can, which tends to gradually lose its “charge”. And with frost, the pressure also decreases. Airguns can be compressor. In this case, the pressure in the pneumatic chamber is pumped by breaking the barrel during charging and the movement of the lever.
Allowed Weapons
What is a permitted weapon for self-defense? This is, first of all, permitted by law for free storage and carrying. And various improvised things with which you can repel the attack.
Weapons allowed for self-defense, is divided into four main types:
- barrelless firearms with gas, traumatic and light-sound cartridges, corresponding to the norms of the Russian Federation;
- gas weapons, which include: revolvers, pistols, cartridges for them, mechanical sprayers, various aerosol devices that contain tear and irritating substances permitted in the Russian Federation;
- smooth-bore firearms for self-defense, which includes models with traumatic cartridges that comply with Russian standards;
- electroshock devices, various spark gaps with output parameters that meet the standards and norms of the Russian Federation.
Secondary weapon
Self-defense firearms require a license. However, you can take advantage of other options. Gas cartridges are the most common weapon for self-defense, due to their small size, low price and strong action. They contain irritating substances that, when they enter the respiratory tract or eyes, cause tearing, sharp coughing and severe pain. But for efficiency it is necessary to get a jet from a spray into the face of the attacker. And to repulse the attack, the attacker should be no further than two meters from the defender.
Stun guns are a stunning weapon. It is mainly intended for contact fights. And when protecting, the stun gun must be fixed for a couple of seconds on the body of the attacker, which is often impossible.
How to choose the right weapon
What weapons to choose for self-defense? Traditionally, pump action is considered the best option. You can, of course, use any gun, but nevertheless the best option is short-barreled, as close as possible to pistols. Weapons for these purposes should be compact, lightweight, reliable and easy to handle. With a gun, you can replace the butt with a pistol grip, which will make it even more compact. But this may introduce some limitations to the accuracy of the sight.
Pistols and revolvers are preferably chosen so that they can fit in a small handbag (for example, a woman's one), without standing out and not attracting attention. Therefore, those models that do not work on their own, but have fuses, are very important.
A single-shot weapon for self-defense will not work, since the first shot, according to the law, is fired into the air to prevent the attacker. Pump-action weapons are the optimal choice, as they are compact, undemanding to the power of cartridges, and have the ability to reload.
Gas cartridges, stun guns, etc. should also be small, compact, with the ability to respond quickly in critical situations.
Cartridges for weapons
It is best to select cartridges that will help to avoid a rebound, since the first shot under the law should always be warning (in the air). Self-defense weapons loaded with small shots will be effective at close range, the further - the more accuracy is lost. Ammunition for any weapon should not have great penetrative power.
Flaubert Revolver
One of the best options when choosing weapons for defensive purposes is the Flaubert revolver. It has a classic shape, it looks intimidating and can scare off an attacker. It has different sizes and fits comfortably into the female hand. Basically, it is made from non-magnetic alloys, and this determines the high quality of the product.
Among revolvers it is believed that this is the best weapon for self-defense. It has a good bullet weight and great power. The sound of the shot is no different from the combat. Such revolvers can be purchased without registration and permission. They are easy to use.
License-free weapons
Self-defense weapons without a license are gas spray cans, electroshock devices, small-capacity pneumatic guns and mechanical sprayers. Gas pistols also fall into the category of gas spray weapons. But they cannot be used in confined spaces.
Stun guns vary in power, with self-defense it is better to use models with a small voltage. Pneumatic weapons also do not require a license, but nevertheless outwardly they are as close as possible to military ones, they have a psychological effect, and the attacker will not be able to immediately determine if they are real.
Obtaining a license
Nevertheless, most of the weapons will require a license. For self-defense, they get a separate one. The difference is that hunting and combat weapons require a personal permit.
To obtain a license, it is necessary to undergo examination in a neuropsychiatric, narcological dispensary, clinic, take photographs and contact the licensing department at the Department of Internal Affairs. Next - buy a weapon and get permission for it. Sometimes you may need to purchase a safe for storage. A weapon license is issued within a month after the application is submitted.
Gas revolvers and pistols, barrelless firearms can only be purchased by people who have reached the age of majority, with the mandatory registration of weapons in a 2-week period at the police department at the place of residence. The license allows no more than 5 units of registered weapons. It is also a permission to carry and store.
