Where did the name come from?

The village of Zabortniki, which was located on the site of Bolshoi Boldino earlier, owes its name to the main occupation of the Mordovian tribes that inhabited it. They collected honey from wild bees, and this activity was called storing.

The modern name of the village has two versions of origin. According to one of them, the village was previously called Tatar El Boldino in Tatar, and later the name was reduced. According to another, the village was named after Boldai, who was of Mordovian origin.

XVI-XIX centuries

Since the second half of the XVI century, this land was the property of the Pushkin family, the most famous noble dynasty. Eustathius Pushkin served as a diplomat under Tsar Ivan the Terrible and received a Boldin estate from the Tsar as a reward for his exploits. Later, Ivan and Fedor Pushkins were awarded royal gifts in the form of Boldin lands.

Owners on patrimonial lands did not live permanently, but only occasionally came. In 1742, the estate passed to Pushkin’s grandfather, Lev Aleksandrovich. The possessions at that time were very voluminous: in addition to the Boldino, the Pushkins belonged to the village of Kistenevo and the village of Maloe Boldino. The owner himself, Lev Aleksandrovich, always lived in Moscow, and came to the village.

Lev Aleksandrovich was a believer, he loved to do charity affairs. At his own expense, he began to build a church of stone, as well as a manor house. In the XIX century, the estate was inherited by the father of Alexander Sergeyevich, Sergey Lvovich. On the eve of his marriage, he decided to give part of the estate to his son, which was the reason for the poet's arrival in the village of Boldino.

Visit of the poet

The first arrival of Pushkin in Boldino occurred in 1830 before marriage with Natalia Goncharova. The groom planned to draw up documents on the property allocated to him by his father. But the cholera epidemic overwhelmed the Nizhny Novgorod lands, and the poet had to stay in the village for three winter months.

This fall, Pushkin wrote many wonderful works that brought him world fame. Not for nothing that this period in the life of the poet was later called by the literary critics Boldinsky in the fall. Pushkin visited in Boldino back in 1833 and 1834.

Pushkin's life in Boldin was secluded. In the large corner room of the master's house was his study. From the windows you can see the larch, which Alexander Sergeyevich planted. Other trees of those times have also survived - a willow near the pond and two oaks next to it.

On the table there are copies of documentary papers of Pushkin’s time. The furniture of the office was recreated according to the sketch of Pushkin: it has a table, chairs, two sofas, a clock.
  • Patrimonial office. The building is located on the other side of the pond, in front of the manor house. A magnificent bridge leads to the office. In ancient times, the office collected patrimonial dues from the peasants, as well as conducted housekeeping and household affairs. This building has simpler furniture than in the noble estates.
  • Household buildings. The human, bathhouse, kitchen, barn and stable rooms were recreated later.
  • "Arbor of fairy tales" and "tent". These gazebo buildings are located in the middle of the park.
  • “Priests order” - church priests lived in it, it wasn’t preserved due to a fire. The buildings were recreated from photographs.
  • The park is a picturesque place in the center of the village.
  • Grove Luchinnik - located a few kilometers from the Pushkin estate. The poet himself liked to walk in it.
