Slotted grid: types and purpose

For effective ventilation of the room it is necessary to solve a lot of problems, among which competent air distribution is one of the main. The slotted grate is used in air distribution systems in public and industrial buildings. Thanks to the discreet design, it can be completely invisible and not spoil the interior. As a rule, the grill is solid and flat, but, depending on the project, a design with side walls is possible.

The ventilation slit grill has a high degree of induction, is suitable for supplying and removing cold and warm air, while the temperature difference quickly equalizes. It is widely used in ventilation, air conditioning and heating systems of various types of residential and industrial premises with ceiling heights from 2.5 to 4 m.

The same device is installed in rooms with strict requirements for comfort and hygiene, for example, in hospital wards. The main functions of such grilles are the uniform distribution of air from the ventilation or heating system throughout the room, as well as the removal of air in the opposite direction, from the room to the ventilation. Ventilation systems, and, consequently, slotted gratings, are in great demand, more often not from personal preferences, but according to fire safety requirements.

Types of slotted gratings

There are three main types of slotted gratings:

  • ARS - regulating slotted supply grilles designed for supplying and evenly distributing air in rooms of various types through ventilation and air conditioning systems with constant and variable air flow. Provide a stable airflow in cooling mode. Equipped with perforated dampers and rotary shutters to control air flow in the range from 25 to 100%.
  • ALS - supply unregulated slit grille, without rotary blinds.
  • ABC - exhaust grilles without shutters and blinds.

These designs can have a complex T-shaped or angular shape. Supply slotted gratings are used in combination with static pressure chambers (KSD). The ABC exhaust slot grill is mounted complete with an air flow regulator (DAC). For adjustable supply grilles, the use of DAC is impractical, since the air flow is controlled by dampers and shutters. All grilles are mounted at the level of the false ceiling, joining the air ducts.

Design

The slotted grate consists of an aluminum casing, on which horizontal holes are located in an amount from 1 to 6. A cylindrical roller is mounted inside the casing, with which the air flow direction is adjusted.

As a rule, slotted gratings are used with static pressure chambers (KSD), which allow stabilizing the flow and regulating air flow. The width of the slots varies from 8 to 25 mm. The length of the grate can be from 2 cm to 3 m (if necessary, typesetting designs are used, which allows them to be mounted in lines of any shape).

Slot gratings are characterized by a high degree of induction, excellent aerodynamic qualities and attractive design. These devices allow you to quickly heat the air flow, reduce the noise level of the ventilation system, eliminate drafts and the formation of stagnant zones. They are mounted in suspended ceilings or wall structures, almost invisible in the interior. The minimum mounting height is 2.5 m.

Slotted cast iron grate

A separate type of device, not related to ventilation or air conditioning, is cast-iron slotted gratings used in drainage systems. Such grilles are a part of the exterior of a certain area with a surface drainage system. They are made of cast iron, with a strength close to steel, and can be used even in areas with automobile traffic and a load of 25 tons per square meter. They cover drainage trays made of concrete, plastic, polymer concrete, and other materials. They are made by injection molding with various load classes.

These grilles protect storm sewers and other surface drainage systems from blockages. They are irreplaceable in the spring when, after the snow melts into the waterways, various debris is carried away by streams of water: soil, branches, leaves and other debris (all this is delayed by cast-iron drainage gratings).
