Pella shipbuilding plant holds the palm in the construction of tugboats, successfully masters the production of torpedo boats, oceanographic vessels and other high-tech vessels.
History
Pella OJSC is a shipbuilding company located in the city of Otradnoye in the Leningrad Region. The territory it occupies previously belonged to the park area of the Pellinsky Palace. The plant was laid and built by decree of Catherine II, only the postal yard and stables remained from the magnificent ensemble. The damage was caused not by time and human disorder, but by war. Currently, the buildings are monuments and protected by the state.
After the revolution, and more precisely in the 30s, the USSR Ministry of Forestry erected the hulls of a car trailer factory on the site of gardens . After the blockade was lifted and the Great Patriotic War ended, the enterprise resumed operations, workshops were restored and a new name was received - Leningrad Mechanical Plant No. 4.
The Pella shipyard was founded in 1950 and is currently one of the flagships of small-tonnage shipbuilding. The company specializes in the production of tugboats (pushers, tilters, escorts), pilot ships, boats, equipment and tools.

Leningrad Shipyard Pella sees its mission in the comprehensive fulfillment of its obligations. The company believes that products coming from the shipyards of the plant should be of only high quality and meet Russian and European standards. An equally important part of the work is the implementation of all the wishes of the customer, as well as the fulfillment of all contractual obligations.

Products
The Pella shipyard was privatized in 1992 and received the status of an open joint stock company. The main products remained the traditional areas:
- Shipbuilding. Products are supplied to Russian customers, exported to near and far abroad. The leader in production is pilot boats. New directions have been mastered - tugboats, pusher tugs, escort tugs, vessels for various purposes (including for the Russian Navy).
- Fiberglass production. This area specializes in the manufacture of lifeboats intended for launching on cables, free fall boats, as well as structures made of composite materials. An additional production area is launching gears to fiberglass boats, the production of technological Pella Fiord pleasure boats.
- Industrial engineering. The company produces plasma cutting machines used for automatic cutting of metal sheet. Leningrad Shipyard Pella is the only company producing such equipment. As part of the engineering industry, a series of pipe bending machines for hot and cold pipe processing are produced. Devices of the “Luch” and “Effect” series are also manufactured, designed for painting by airless spraying.
Company structure
Pella is a shipyard (Otradnoye), which has a holding management structure. The main legal entity unites independent units of subsidiaries. This allows the company to build a clear technological chain within the enterprise. Each of the subordinate subsidiary legal entities has a certain degree of freedom in receiving orders, distributing profits, and concentrating resources.

Prospects
In 2011, the Pella shipyard in the Leningrad Region acquired an additional 20 hectares of space for the construction of production facilities. The territory is located three kilometers below the existing enterprise. In the new workshops are being built:
- Technical vessels (tugboats for work in ice, hydrographic vessels, specialized vessels for work in the infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route).
- Fishing vessels (trawlers for fishing at different depths, vessels for various institutes of the Federal Fisheries Agency, etc.).
The company should reach its design capacity in 2018, the planned financial turnover of funds will approximately amount to 8 to 10 billion rubles per year. The main activities are engineering, shipbuilding. In 2015, the company began production of defense ships of the Karakurt project, which are armed with Caliber class cruise missiles.
Implementation of plans
The new Pella shipyard is active. In 2016, Pella presented several new projects and modernized serial products as part of the Strategic Initiatives Forum. Of greatest interest were the fishing vessel and the multi-purpose rescue tugboat. The response was received by the project of the new shipbuilding complex of the company, as well as the concept development of a series of fishing vessels (freezer trawler, trawler processor, crab fishing vessel, etc.).
At the end of July 2016, the company laid the foundation for the third rocket ship of the Shkval series of small displacement, it is intended for the Russian Navy. Within the framework of this cooperation, it is planned to produce a universal sea tanker and a technical vessel of project 23120M (killer). According to some media reports, the construction of these facilities will take place at the company's foreign shipyards (Hamburg, a subsidiary of Pella Sietas GmbH).
In September 2016, the company launched the new Akademik Ageev oceanographic research vessel, and several serial tugboats that received home ports and owners were also launched. All vessels undergo appropriate certification and classification of domestic / foreign companies.
Crimean expansion
Crimean shipyards for a long time remained without proper support and today are in dire need of investment. According to some reports, the Pella shipyard claimed the opportunity to reorganize and make investments in the More factory (Feodosia). The decision to invest was connected with the implementation by the Feodosia enterprise of a military defense order for the construction of ships of the same class, which are produced by the Pella LSZ.
The union was opposed by the trade union of the More factory workers, who wanted to maintain state ownership, since there was information about the transfer of the enterprise to the jurisdiction of a subsidiary of Pella OJSC. However, the parties reached certain agreements. There is no information about the details yet, but the initial stage of reconstruction of the Feodosia shipyard is already underway. The plans include pre-depth measures in the bay, repair of industrial premises and other restoration work. The reconstruction plan is designed until 2020.
Administration
The main shareholder of the company is Tsaturov Herbert Robertovich (59.66% of the shares). Since 1992, he has been the General Director of LSZ Pella.
