Geological Museum named after V. Vernadsky
On Mokhovaya street (Okhotny Ryad metro station) is one of the oldest geological museums in the world. The foundation of the museum is a collection (600 species) donated by the Moscow Geological Institute in 1775 to the Ural minerals by the Demidov family, the founders of mining in the Urals.
Now the museum has more than 60,000 samples of minerals of various rocks of Russia. A mineralogical school founded by Vladimir Vernadsky has been operating here since 1910.
Zoological Museum of Moscow State University
In the central part of Moscow, on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street, the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University is located.
Expositions of this institution are located in a building built in 1902 specifically for the museum. Initially, it was a natural science department related to Moscow State University.
After some time, it was disbanded, leaving only the zoological part, which was the basis of the zoological museum. Now tourists can see 4.5 million exhibits of the Museum of Local Lore in Moscow. They are located in three rooms.
The lower hall consists of exhibits of unicellular organisms and representatives of the reptile class. The second floor is divided into two rooms, where guides will talk about the livelihoods and habitats of birds and other animals from different parts of the world.
Museum of Archeology of Moscow
On Manezhnaya Square, during the celebration of the 850th anniversary of the founding of the capital, the Museum of Archeology was opened. The basis of the exposition became archaeological finds in the museum of local lore of Moscow. They were found during excavations on the territory of Manege Square at the end of the 20th century.
Tourists can see the main museum exhibit - the coastal stops of the medieval Resurrection Bridge, which was the first stone bridge in the time of Boris Godunov.
During the fire of 1812, the bridge was destroyed and covered with earth. Now on this place is a modern bridge with the same historical name.
In addition to the Voskresensky pillars, built of white marble, history buffs can visit the remains of the former Moses Monastery (founded in the middle of the 16th century), which at that time was located on the modern Manezhnaya Square.
Now in the underground museum, after restoration work, the School of the Young Archaeologist has begun to function, where children are taught the basics of archaeological work.
Museum "Our era"
In Olsufyevsky Lane, history buffs can visit the Moscow Local History Museum Our Era. It is located in the urban district of Khamovniki (Frunzenskaya metro station).
The museum’s expositions are located in the former mansion of the architect Roman Klein, where manuscripts of the XV-XVI centuries, medals, coins and other household items of the past centuries are provided for inspection.
The peculiarity of this museum is that the main part of the exhibits was collected by Professor of Theological University Vasily Fonchenkov.
Museum of Local Lore of Moscow - “House on the Embankment”
On the opposite side of the Moscow Kremlin is a building called the House on the Embankment.
In 1918, the capital was moved to Moscow, and at that time many civil servants moved to the city, for which in 1927 a government house was built on the site of wine and salt stores.
The street on which there is a twenty-story building, used to be called the All Saints. From 1933 to the present time, it bears the name of one of the residents of the house - the writer Alexander Serafimovich.
In 1989, with the assistance of Tamara Ter-Yeghiazaryan (a resident of the government house since 1931), on the ground floor, in the former apartment of the security chief, a museum of the history of residents, prominent figures who were repressed during the years of great terror, was opened.
Tourists have the opportunity to inspect the typical interior of the apartment and get acquainted with the originals of documents of those times. The expositions of local history museums acquaint with the history of Russia, from the past centuries to the present.
