Chinese disaster

In China, floods are a constant problem. Flooding of a similar scale in the Middle Kingdom occurred in 1998.

The population of the country is constantly waiting for decisive action from the government in the fight against this harsh natural phenomenon. The death toll from floods and severe rains decreases annually, which is facilitated by high government spending on protection from water flows, as well as efforts to evacuate areas when water levels become dangerous.

For Chinese leaders, floods are a test of their ability to deliver on their promises to keep their citizens safe.

In the past, flood protection in the country was rather weak and ineffective due to inaction of officials and corruption, but Minister Li Keqiang and other leaders said that in 2016 the government organized better rescue operations than ever. But is it really so?
