Most often, the question of how many milliliters in a glass arises in housewives who are trying a new recipe. They know that in order for a dish to be successful, it is important to observe all proportions. Of course, small deviations are acceptable, but they must be insignificant, otherwise the taste of the cooked food can fundamentally change.
How to choose a glass
When compiling recipes, cooks do not think about the fact that people do not always have a measured capacity at hand. What can we say about special devices, if not everyone can find an ordinary glass left over from Soviet times. But if you have one, then it can be used as a standard. True, not everyone knows how many milliliters are in a glass. In the standard faceted version with a flat border along the upper edge contains 250 ml. But at the same time it should be filled to the brim.
Many houses have other faceted glasses, in which there is no border on the top. Their volume differs from the above, their maximum capacity does not exceed 200 ml. Consider these differences when measuring water.
If you do not know how many milliliters of water are in the glass that you have in the kitchen, then you need to measure how much liquid it contains. There are two simple ways to do this. In the first case, you will need a regular syringe, in the second - a scale. Choose for yourself which option suits you best.
Syringe Calibration
So, in order to measure the capacity, take a 20 cc syringe. Measuring 20 ml, pour water into 1 cup. How many milliliters you enter into it, it will be easy to calculate in the end. If you poured ten of these syringes, then it contains 200 ml, and if 12.5 are included, then 250 ml. The main thing is not to get lost in the calculation. Of course, not everyone at home has a 20-cc syringe, and hardly anyone wants to go after it specifically to the pharmacy.
Therefore, we recommend using other options. Perhaps you have a small glass with divisions left from some medicinal syrup. A 5 cc syringe will do. But be careful when calculating: in a 200-gram faceted glass with it you will have to pour water 40 times. If you have 250 ml in your container, then 50 times. You can make your task easier: measure 50 ml in a separate transparent cup for a start, make a mark, and then pour 50 grams into the selected glass.
Weigh water
It is much easier to find out how many milliliters are in a glass if you have ordinary kitchen scales. Back in school, they told you that 1 ml of water takes 1 cm 3 and weighs 1 gram. This information is useful for determining the capacity of your glass.
To begin, weigh it blank and remember the result. After that, fill it to the brim with water and see how much it weighs now. Count the difference - this will be the amount of liquid placed in it. Agree, find out how many milliliters are in a glass, using weights is the easiest. But do not try to use this method in order to measure the amount of sunflower oil, sour cream or milk. These products have a different density, they must be weighed if grams are indicated in the recipe, or measured in a special glass.
