The environs of St. Petersburg are famous for their beautifully landscaped parks and squares, on the territory of which there are usually old mansions and monuments of the past.
But the Okkervil park is slightly different from the rest, primarily because of its youth. The territory of the park looks modern. In addition, it is convenient for people. History of occurrence
This park was opened on October 2, 2010 on the banks of a small river under the same name - Okkervil.
The Otdelstroy company was engaged in landscaping the area of 10 hectares, after some time, and more precisely in 2012, the forest joined the park, which was also put in order and had approximately the same area. This land is called “Okkervil Forest Park”, one part of which is equipped with landscape designers, and the other remains to preserve the natural look of untouched nature.
origin of name
For the first time, those who have heard the name of the Okkervil park always ask about the origin of its name. After all, it does not sound in the Russian manner.
Indeed, this natural zone is named after the river, on the banks of which the park is located. This water body of a very small size, about 18 km long, originates from the Koltush marshes and flows into the Okhta river.
Geographers and local historians did not come to a consensus on the name of the river, but the main version is set out in a book entitled “Why are they so named?”, Which states that in 1699 on the Swedish map there was a Swedish manor at the place where this rivulet flows into Okhta Colonel Okkervil. Allegedly, on behalf of this person, the name of the river, and later the whole park, takes place.
Exact location
This forest and park, which are beautifully and tastefully landscaped, are located in the north of Leningradskaya Street. To the south of them is the town of Kudrovo and the Birch Grove housing complex. To the east of the Okkervil park is the St. Petersburg Ring Road.
About a kilometer away from the park is the Dybenko metro station. In the coming years, it is planned to open a new Kudrovo station.
You can get to the park by public transport, driving to the Dybenko metro station, and then walking a bit. Shuttles also go in this direction.
Park development
Two bicycle paths were made in this picturesque area, arranged in a circle, 1 and 2 km long, along which you can freely ride bicycles, rollers or just walk with a stroller. And even without your own bike or rollers, you can take the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant and healthy stay by renting a two-wheeled vehicle.
Simulators are installed in the park square so that everyone can go in for sports in the fresh air.
In early summer, flower beds and picnic areas in the form of paid arbors were decorated. The river bed was also expanded by the opening day of the park, thereby providing the opportunity for comfortable swimming and fishing.
In addition, several bridges over the river were built, the beach was equipped and cabins for changing clothes, a children's playground and umbrellas were installed.
In winter, the river also does not empty, they make a skating rink and organize various competitions such as ski races or hockey games.
It is planned to equip the area for dog walking, as well as a volleyball court and additional playgrounds. In addition, they want to add a few bicycle paths and build a street scene.
On the territory of the Okkervil park, the photo of which can be seen in this article, there is a temple in honor of the Vatopedi Icon of the Mother of God. Its consecration took place on May 25, 2014. Now on its territory began the construction of the Cathedral of the Apostle John the Theologian.
