Most of the traditions of the Asian people are associated with the history of the appearance of carpets. Nomadic tribes in the East were engaged in farming and livestock. Processing meat and wool was the basis of their activities. Scientists suggest that the art of carpet weaving came from Central Asia. Carpets for nomads were a bed and a house, a door and decoration. And now in Central Asia, people living in the steppe far from the center, be sure to have a small wool carpet with them, which can be spread on the canal, dine and pray on it.
More recently, about 35 years ago, the cost of carpets was equal to the cost of the machine, and even they were in short supply. It was difficult to buy a woolen carpet: a queue was drawn up that lasted for years. But even then, the bride had to bring at least a small carpet to the house. Her family walked on it, children crawled and ran. He served for a long time: until the young family made money on a new wool carpet.
From the history
The first carpet that has come down to us from the past is more than 2500 years old. He was found by a Soviet expedition in Altai. For thousands of years this woolen carpet was stored in the frozen tombs of the Pazyryk mounds. Studies have shown that it is woven from sheep’s wool on looms. This fact proved that carpet weaving technique has not changed much since then.
The history of carpets is surrounded by mysteries and secrets. They could tell a lot through the drawing. Islamic clergy forbade drawing people and animals. Maybe that's why the masters conveyed through drawings, composition and color
the gamut is what they thought and dreamed about. Many heard the legend where the captured prince wove carpets in which he told through the drawing where he was and who had taken him prisoner. Sold carpets fell to the people of the prince, and they saved him. Then it was believed that even rulers and their children should know the honorable craft - carpet weaving. Sometimes this skill saved their lives.
We heard a story about an unusual carpet, which in the VI century. was presented to the Persian king Khosrov I. It was called "Spring Carpet." Its length was 122 m and its width was 30 m. Decorated with gold threads and precious stones, the carpet was expensive and heavy. He was a symbol of strength, power, welfare of the state and the king. They laid it only for celebrations. Unfortunately, this work of art did not reach us: in the 7th century. it was taken out in parts by the Arab conquering troops. We have only a story left.
What are carpets woven from?
The modern wool carpet is made from high-quality sheep, camel, goat hair (the wool of the fine-fleece New Zealand sheep is considered the best). Wool is dyed with natural dyes, so after washing the color remains unchanged. For coloring, roots, leaves, flowers of various plants are used.
Due to their density, wool carpets do not let moisture in, prevent pollution. This is hard enough to achieve, and the secrets of carpet weaving are passed down from generation to generation.
