Historical reference

The Klimov plant in St. Petersburg was formed in 1927 through the merger of the Red October and Russian Renault enterprises. His activity is connected with the brilliant Russian aircraft manufacturer V. Ya. Klimov, a student of the equally brilliant aircraft designer N. E. Zhukovsky.

In the 1930s, Klimovsk citizens were engaged in servicing and producing individual components for tractor engines, assembled motorcycles of the L and C series, and made components for tanks and shells. Before the war, the plant mastered the production of M-100 piston aircraft engines, which were a licensed copy of the French 12Ybrs model.

In the 40s, the enterprise created a design bureau under the leadership of Vladimir Klimov . Its RD-10 engines were installed on the first-born of Soviet jet aviation - the Yak-15 aircraft. The next generation of VK series turbo engines was widely used in fighter aircraft; they equipped reconnaissance vehicles and Soviet bombers.

The production of power units for a new class of aircraft - helicopters - began in 1962. Until the 70s, models of the GDT and TV series were developed. In 1971, the Klimov Plant participated in the design (with wide cooperation with other design bureaus and research institutes) of the RD-33 engine, which became the heart of the maneuverable MiG-29. By the way, this engine in various modifications was subsequently used in foreign fighters “Super-7” and “Mirage”.

In the 90s, the company diversified its activities through the creation of power plants based on aircraft and helicopter engines. The revival of the helicopter industry in 2000 required the design of modern, more economical power units. In 2001, the VK-2500 motor was introduced, designed to raise the middle class “Mi” and “Ka” vehicles.
