Wine "Myskhako": wine names, winery history, taste

Winery "Myskhako" has a long tradition, which dates back to the time of Antiquity. Being one of the oldest domestic manufactures, it pleases its fans with natural high-quality products. The line is represented by cuvée wines, as well as semi-dry, dry and semi-sweet varieties that are available on any wallet.

History of the Myskhako winery

The name Myskhako was given the name in honor of the estate of the same name. The opinion of linguists regarding the origin of the term diverges. Some believe that it is translated as "dolphin cape", while others - as "elm valley". The winery has an ancient tradition. Since ancient times, the Greek population of the region has grown grapes, carefully selecting the best varieties for wine production. Echoes of that era still reach us as archaeological finds, namely amphorae with grape seeds.

The further fall of Byzantium and Turkish rule on the Black Sea led to the destruction of viticulture as a whole industry, because the followers of Islam should not drink alcoholic beverages. The culture of winemaking gradually began to revive only during the reign of the Russian Empire. In the second half of the 19th century, doctor Michael Penchul, appointed trustee of the Black Sea region, ordered the restoration of vineyards and the establishment of the Myskhako wine production. The undertaking was a success, and the products of the winery over time became considered the best in the entire Black Sea region.

Wines "Myskhako"

The winery continued to exist in the period of the USSR. During the Second World War, Brezhnev’s headquarters was located here. After the war ended, production began to expand. By the 70s, the plant had acquired its own tasting room and gained the status of a favorite place of partelite.

The 21st century turned out to be a rather ambiguous period for the Myskhako estate. At the beginning of the century, the winery received the title of official supplier of the Kremlin, but could not cope with the subsequent deterioration of the economic situation and was forced to temporarily close. However, the assistance of investors allowed the revival of Myskhako wines by the end of 2017. The new product line is produced under the strict control of the well-known in narrow circles winemaker Sergei Dubovik. In 2019, the Myskhako winery will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
