OJSC "Novosibirsk Switch Plant": history, description, products

Novosibirsk Switch Plant OJSC is a large enterprise in the machine-building sector that produces switch mechanisms and spare parts for main railway, industrial access and tram tracks. The company's product range exceeds 300 types of products. Submits to the regional branch of Russian Railways.

Reborn from the ashes

The history of the Novosibirsk Switch Factory is the clearest example of the labor feat of an unbroken people who have shown character and defended their right to independence in the conditions of the brutal World War II. It all started in the cold winter of 1942, when, unexpectedly for everyone, trains arrived at the Inskaya railway station near Novosibirsk with the Nizhnedneprovsky switch plant evacuated from Ukraine. Together with multi-ton equipment, workers and their families arrived.

In conditions of 30-degree frosts, in fact, in the open field, the arrangement of production "workshops" has begun. Fortunately, there was a small repair shop at the station, which made it possible to preserve the most valuable equipment and even launch a small foundry in the basement. Surprisingly, in the spring of the same year, in the most difficult organizational and industrial conditions, the workers installed railroad switches of the P-43 series. The official birthday of the newly formed enterprise was March 17, 1942.

First steps

If in the first year of work at the Novosibirsk Switch Factory 405 turnouts were issued, which were so necessary for the restoration of the destroyed tracks, in 1943 the number of mechanisms exceeded 2,000 units. In addition to specialized products, factory workers (mainly 14-16-year-old adolescents and women) cast hulls for mines and even made several armored vehicles.

In parallel with the working process, small production sites were built in the middle of a pine forest:

  • Instrumental.
  • Mechanical assembly.
  • Cast iron foundry.

In 1943, more spacious buildings of the forge-press and mechanical workshops were built. To provide heat, we used the steam installation of the FD train. By the end of the war, a team of 190 workers had grown to a thousand. For unprecedented feat, over 500 people were awarded by the state medals, orders and commemorative signs.

Post-war development

After the victory, the government decided not to return equipment and personnel to Dnepropetrovsk, but to continue the development of the Novosibirsk switch plant in the vicinity of Inskaya station. From 1945 to 1948, the mechanical and steel workshops were commissioned. For the latter, they bought economical one and a half-ton furnaces in which high-quality medium-manganese, carbon, and later high-manganese steel grades were cooked.

In 1960, a large-scale program to create a decent social infrastructure was launched. A hostel, a kindergarten, a dispensary, a pioneer camp and other facilities were built.

In 1956, the last R-43 railroad switch was released. Its capabilities were no longer sufficient for the safe operation of railways, the load on which increased many times over. Together with the Siberian Academy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and specialized research institutes, a new, heavy type of translation of the P-65 series was developed.

The Novosibirsk Switch Factory “survived” two major reconstructions: in 1963-1966 and 1978-1988. Old buildings were rebuilt. Significantly improved safety and working conditions. New high-performance equipment appeared, which affected the products. Many operations were mechanized.
