Army obstacle course: from the TRP to the present

A training strip, the filling of which has not changed for more than 80 years, is to this day an effective method of training military personnel. It's time to find out what it is and where it finds application.

Army obstacle course dimensions are 150-200 meters in length. Its purpose is to develop among the military personnel the skills to overcome obstacles that are often encountered on the battlefield, develop dexterity, quick reaction, endurance, and make power loads more intense. It is used to train not only the Russian army, but also in the vast majority of the armies of other countries, as well as special services and law enforcement agencies.

It is found at the training grounds of military units either in the standard version, or in the form of a 40 x 90 meter section, or in the form of long tracks of 3-5 km. Obstacles are located either one after another, or in the form of parallel strips connected by transitions, or in the form of a circle, or an eight.

The army obstacle course usually includes the following structures:

  • palisade with a smooth surface;
  • a log parallel to the ground;
  • hedge;
  • labyrinth snake;
  • trench;
  • trench for throwing grenades ;
  • wire fence;
  • "ruined staircase";
  • "destroyed bridge";
  • moat;
  • a wall with two breaks;
  • tunnel - underground hole;
  • dummy for practicing blows with a butt and bayonet.

Where is it used?

The army obstacle course is used in our country both in the military sphere and in the civilian:

  • The 200-meter obstacle course is a mandatory training base for the Russian armed forces.
  • At the training of the Marine Corps and the airborne troops, the obstacles are noticeably more complicated: the perpendicular fence is made hanging or having a slope, barbed wire is stretched over the mud areas, an underground hole is constructed with numerous turns, sudden descents. New elements are also added: water obstacles, smoke and fire curtains, explosive packets, targets for firing, practicing hand-to-hand combat techniques, mountaineer training, parachuting.
  • Used, but only in the form of a doubles start, in military eventing.
  • It takes place in the training of firefighters, dog handlers with four-legged colleagues.
  • Game options are used in sports relay races for children.

History

Soviet troops owned the technique of overcoming the strip even before the Great Patriotic War. The army obstacle course was one of the components of the Ready for Labor and Defense complex. By the way, the widespread prevalence of this element of physical education in schools, universities, factories, state farms and collective farms is considered one of the reasons for the victory of the USSR. After all, the exercises included in the complex train agility, endurance, speed, significantly strengthen the body, develop quick wits.
