JSC "Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant" Iskra "is one of the leading domestic enterprises for the production of explosives for the mining industry. Another important area of work is the production of sports and hunting ammunition and components for them.
Birth
The history of the creation of the Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant Iskra is associated with the Great Patriotic War. After the start of the fighting, the government was able to quickly evacuate 46 munitions factories to the east. On the basis of some of them in the vicinity of Novosibirsk, the production of mines, grenades, ammunition, and explosives was organized.
Officially, the Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant Iskra in the city of Novosibirsk was registered on April 29, 1942, but it started working much earlier. After the war, the Red Army’s need for ammunition decreased, and the enterprise reoriented to supply explosives for mining companies, exploration, construction of large facilities where rock clearing is required.
Development
In the 1950s, Iskra (Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant) mastered in-line production of hunting cartridges and electric detonators of the ED-8E series. In the next decade, mining volumes increased significantly. Thanks to the improvement of geological exploration methods, more and more ore mines, quarries, and oil and gas fields were introduced. For their effective operation, new-generation explosive devices in large quantities were required.
In the mid-1960s, the Iskra NMZ received a state order for promising products - detonating cords. Their mass release was established as soon as possible. To do this, I had to carry out large-scale work on the mechanization and automation of production, to modernize the manufacturing process. Siberian scientists, including from the Academy of Sciences, actively participated in creating the innovative product. At the Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant "Iskra" in the 1970s, its own design school and ACS service were created.
New stage
The 1990s were very difficult for the enterprise. The rupture of economic ties led to the loss of many customers. Meanwhile, the work of the Novosibirsk Mechanical Plant Iskra continued. This period includes the development of a number of innovative products:
- fire-resistant cords in a plastic sheath;
- non-electric initiation systems;
- KV-22 series igniter caps;
- detonating cords of the DShE-6 series;
- shock wave tubes.
In the 2000s, with the aim of preserving and further developing the domestic production of explosives, the Pyrotechnic Products Holding was established, in which the Iskra Metallurgical Plant holds leading positions in terms of production volumes. In 2009, part of the products was certified by the Berlin Federal Research Institute, which allowed exporting goods to the EU.
Products
According to official figures, the list of products of NMZ Iskra includes 118 items. However, this figure is constantly increasing due to the development of new types of products. Today the plant produces devices initiating the ISKRA series:
- superficial;
- starting;
- combined;
- downhole.
Among their advantages: improved control, a wide range of retardation, increased water resistance and tensile strength, combinability, safety.
The company also mastered the production of:
- radio blasting systems;
- explosive devices;
- starting devices;
- relay;
- electric igniters, incendiary cartridges, cords;
- detonator capsule;
- soft fuses, spray devices.
An important area of work for the enterprise was the production of civilian cartridges for hunters and athletes. Ammunition under the brand "Iskra" has proven itself, including in the extreme climatic conditions of Siberia. The factory specializes in the manufacture of the following cartridges:
- Fractional (grades 12/70, 12/76, 16/70, 20/70).
- With buckshot (diameter 5.9 mm, 6.2 mm, 8.5 mm).
- With a bullet (12/70, 12/76, 16/70, 20/70)
- Sports (series "Sporting" and "Sport").
Currently, the designers of the plant are focused on the task of improving the means of initiation with non-pyrotechnic retardation. In new products, the accuracy will be no more than 1 millisecond. This will allow more accurate synchronization of a series of explosions and thereby increase the effectiveness of explosives.
