The Krasnoshkolnaya embankment of Kharkov is located between Moskovsky Prospekt Street and Uritsky Square. It has its own special history associated with the buildings and objects that are located on it. And in this publication we will talk about the most interesting facts from the history of Kharkov Embankment.
History of the waterfront
The appearance of this street dates back to the end of the 18th century. According to information from 1785, the site where the industrial-pedagogical college stands today was set aside for the building of the postal government courtyard, which overlooked the waters of the Kharkov river. At the beginning of the XIX century, a structure was already built on this site, in which the first male gymnasium was placed in the city. It is customary to attribute it to the style of Russian classicism, and the author of the architectural project was E. Vasiliev. Due to the opening of the gymnasium, the embankment of Kharkov was called the Gymnasium.
From Gymnasium to Krasnoshkolnaya
In Soviet times, the embankment of Kharkov was renamed Krasnoshkolnaya. After the war, many new structures were built here. The embankment of Kharkov was largely reconstructed in the 60s of the last century. Location from st. Rustaveli Square Uritsky, and further from the site where the Podolsky bridge is located, and to Netechenskaya street, was dotted with new residential buildings, which replaced the old dilapidated buildings. The lower floors are filled with shops and various institutions where the embankments are located.
Kharkov, in addition, received a building that is currently occupied by Ukrorgstankinprom. This institution is still largely helping a large number of urban enterprises. A construction was also built on Krasnoshkolnaya Embankment, in which the Ukrainian branch of the All-Union State Institute, called the Energy Network project, was placed. It was organized in the 60s of the last century. Among the main areas in which the institute works, it is worth mentioning the development of energy systems projects, as well as the electrical supply schemes for production facilities in many neighboring countries.
An important attraction, which is practically a symbol of the Kharkiv embankment, is the circus building (by the way, it is one of the oldest in the country). The date of its foundation dates back to the end of the XIX century. In the new building, it was opened in the 70s of the last century.
The construction was erected in the western district of Krasnoshkolnaya embankment. The building, which visitors love to photograph, to this day is a combination of grace and monumentality, contemporary at that time trends and traditional features for the circus.
