Interior textiles: flock fabrics for furniture upholstery

What is impossible to imagine a modern living room without? Of course, without upholstered furniture, which is not only needed for a comfortable rest after a busy day, but also serves as an interior decoration.

It is upholstered furniture that is subjected to significant loads during operation, since all family members, including pets, spend most of their free time on it. To upholstered furniture with dignity withstood all the tests, high demands are placed on it, and the most important of them are reliability, durability and comfort. And here we are talking not only about the design of the sofa itself - increased demands are made on the coating.

What should be the upholstery fabric

Flock fabrics
Fabric intended for upholstery should be durable, wear-resistant, practical, dirt and water repellent, easy to clean. And also it should not fade under the influence of sunlight, be pleasant to the touch, bright and beautiful. Flock fabrics, which are very widely used in furniture manufacturing, satisfy all these requirements.

Similar material was used in China in the 1st century BC - a mention of this has survived to the present day. It was there that was first invented by this interesting technology for gluing chopped pile onto a woven base. The art of making fabric without a loom became known to Europeans only in the Middle Ages.

In modern production , flock fabrics are made, of course, in a slightly different way, but the basis is still based on a method invented by the Chinese more than two thousand years ago. Now, for the production of flock, the method of spraying particles of pile onto an adhesive layer deposited on a woven base is used. Under the influence of an electrostatic field, these particles adhere uniformly and strictly vertically.

Flock is also called a velvet substitute, since short fibers glued to the base successfully imitate the structure of this fabric. Flock is a material, the basis of which is 65% polyester and 35% cotton, and already on this sticky base an application of short fibers is applied. The villi can be either natural or synthetic, for example, from nylon. These very villi give the surface of the material a velvety and soft structure, because the furniture fabric - flock - got its name for a reason. This word is translated from German as "flakes" or "snowflakes".

When choosing a new sofa, pay special attention to the fabric for furniture. Flock is a great choice, because it is not in vain that this material for many years remains one of the most popular in furniture production. This fabric is not only resistant to abrasion, but is not afraid of liquids spilled on it, as it is treated with water-repellent impregnation - this is very important when there are small children in the house. Not afraid of her and cat's claws - this is one of the coatings, which refers to the so-called "anti-claw" fabrics.

The undoubted advantage of the flock is the variety of colors - this is a classic, and abstraction, and modern. You can choose a color for every taste, especially since many furniture stores offer to choose upholstery material yourself and order a set of upholstered furniture in the factory in that color scheme that suits your interior.

Flock fabrics are very easy to clean. To remove dust from the coating, simply vacuum it. If the fabric needs to be cleaned, it is possible to treat it with a detergent, while products containing alcohol or solvents cannot be used.
