To compare is how? Meaning, synonyms and examples

Matching is both simple and difficult at the same time. Just when it comes to the obvious. For example, to compare a black cat and a white one, but it’s difficult when events interfere with the task that are too multifaceted. In any case, let's talk about the stated verb.

Value

Pages are curled in a book

Often in literature lessons we are asked to compare (and this is expected) the heroes of fiction. I recall, of course, the brothers Karamazov from the novel of the same name by F. M. Dostoevsky. Probably because they are specially divorced by the writer in different directions, so that the nature of each was more obvious. Different hypotheses can be born from a similar experiment that each schoolchildren can take, for example, the following: the Russian classic, although he consciously promotes bright ideas, the embodiment of which is Alyosha Karamazov, is himself charmed by evil and with pleasure explores precisely the dark depths of man. The proof is the simplicity, consistency of the bright characters of Dostoevsky and the complexity, versatility of the dark. But we are cunning, the student is unlikely to come to such conclusions. On the other hand, students can also be different.

Well, it’s enough, perhaps, to torment the reader with a Russian classic, if he (the reader) is still at school, then there will come times when he will taste the sweetness of this prose, and if not, then he should not recall his past nightmare.

We better consider the meaning and synonyms of the word “match”. True, it will not work out all at once. Let's start with the meaning: “Comparing, correlate with each other to get any conclusion.” There is nothing complicated. Substitutions of the research object have already been waiting. Well, we will not test their patience.

Synonyms

Gemini, it's hard to tell

Of course, we started from school time, but we did wrong chronologically. Because with the operation, where the verb "to compare" is involved (and this is not surprising), a person gets acquainted very early. Imagine a toy in which it is necessary to put certain geometric shapes into the holes of the corresponding shape reserved for them. When a child plays, he compares it willy-nilly.

Let's return to the main characters of this section - synonyms of the object of study:

  • compare;
  • check;
  • to compare;
  • to relate.

As you can see, we are sparse in terms of analogues, because the concept is complex. Something we left behind on our list, because some replacements are not good enough.

Jack London and his Martin Eden

Jack London, author of Martin Eden

The American classic, of course, is more attractive to teenagers than the Russian, about which we spoke a little higher. And if you absolutely do not like Dostoevsky, but you still need to read and compare, then you can take the epoch-making work in its time - “Martin Eden” by Jack London. What exactly is there to compare? In principle, anything can be. But, in our opinion, it is interesting to analyze, for example, the transformation of the main character's ideas about his girlfriend, whom he was fascinated at first. And what happened then, the reader will know if he becomes acquainted with the immortal text. Another topic for which there may not be enough material in the book itself is Martin Eden's thirst for fame and its actual embodiment. In general, if you think about it, you can find a sea of comparisons. Many possibilities are hidden in a person, the only trouble is that he does not know about it.

We hope that now the verb “compare” is not something that will deprive the reader of sleep and come to him in nightmares. Everything is really simple, if you think a little.
