How often is it necessary to change the search settings? Users resort to events in several cases: to eliminate the consequences of malicious software or to find qualitatively new sources of information missed by another search engine. To solve this problem, a minimum of manipulation is required.
Change settings in Google Chrome
I must say that in browsers from Google there are two ways to adapt the issuance of search queries. The first allows you to change the default Google search settings. To do this, you must:
- In the open browser window, select the drop-down menu icon (represents three vertical dots).
- From the list, select "Settings".
- In the “Search” sub-item, click on the triangle revealing additional features.
In the drop-down list, you can select another service for finding answers.
If you do not find the desired service, you have the right to independently register it in the program. To do this, select the “Other search engines” section, after which a window for selecting actions will open — creating, deleting, editing or setting the default search engine.
Reset settings and restore search
In cases where it is not possible to change the search settings in any of the presented ways, a reset is required using a special utility - chrome_cleanup_tool.exe. You can download it on the official website, where you have to accept the terms of the user agreement.
After the download is complete, the system itself will ask if you want to run the program - answer in the affirmative. The application will begin its work, which is to search for unwanted software that does not allow to fix the existing search engine.
Upon completion of the manipulations, click the "Delete" button. Once the process is completed, Google Chrome will open a new tab and ask for permission to reset the settings, change the default search settings. Click the Reset button.

- On the results page of any search query, select the "Settings" item (located right below the input window).
- In the drop-down list, select "Search Settings".
