Probably not many people thought about how a shaved bear looks before 2016. This world community, and first of all - users of the social network Twitter, owe the negligence of the employees of the American television company NBC News, responsible for maintaining the official page of the channel on this Internet portal.
Who shaves the bears and why?
No matter how sad this may sound, the latest news from the life of the militants of the Islamic State terrorist organization, published on February 13, could get lost in an information stream full of tragic criminal news from around the world and go unnoticed if there was no typo in the text that changed the essence of the message to comedic.
As conceived by the authors, a note on the social network was supposed to talk about how terrorists avoid an air attack, trying to mingle with civilians and hiding in the homes of civilians. One of the methods of disguise was that bandits change their appearance by shaving off their beards. But the case ordered otherwise, and in the word “beards”, translated from English meaning “beards”, the letter “d” was not printed turning it into “bears” - bears. In the end, it turned out that the terrorists plan to escape from an air attack with the help of shaved bears.
The phrase scattered in record time across the network, becoming a meme. Photos of bald bears and other illustrations for fantasies on this subject flooded the Internet. However, not everyone who read the news about shaved bears laughed and forgot about it. Many inquisitive citizens had a completely logical question: "Do bears without wool meet in nature, and what makes them like that?"
If the bear is hairless, it doesn’t mean that it is shaved
Bears, like many living things on the planet, whether birds, animals or humans, are prone to baldness. The process of hair loss, regardless of its cause, is called alopecia. It can be the result of various physiological processes and disorders - including vitamin deficiency, aging, seasonal changes, mutations at the gene level, diseases and the appearance of parasites in the body.
One of the best-known hairless clubfoot, whose photographs most often accompany notes about shaved bears, is a bear named Dolores, who lives in the zoo in the German city of Leipzig. In her case, the veterinarians consider a genetic malfunction as the cause of baldness, as otherwise the animal is recognized as completely healthy.
