Fastboot: how to exit the mode and why is it needed?

The ability to deeply configure devices has always been of interest to users seeking maximum convenience and performance. So it was with computers and laptops, the same thing is happening now in the field of mobile devices.

For gadgets on Android, the situation is partially solved by using various system tweaks, less often by obtaining superuser rights, some of which have quite enough engineering menu capabilities. However, the most comprehensive device enhancement features are available using the so-called Fast Boot Mode or Fastboot Mode. Let's consider in more detail.

Despite the name, it has nothing in common (at first glance) with the system setup, this mode allows you to make significant changes to the device configuration. To do this, you need to connect to a computer, with the help of which all control operations will be performed and interacted with the gadget system.

Fastboot mode on smartphone screen

What is fastboot?

At its core, this mode is a set of software and hardware tools aimed at interacting with the device in an environment isolated from the operating system, which allows you to perform various diagnostic, recovery, as well as configuration actions with the system and its modules. At the same time, the performance of the OS itself does not matter. Like the BIOS on computer motherboards, Fastboot is written in a separate memory sector, which is not affected by the read and write functions of the OS. Accordingly, the recovery of the operating system after serious failures is possible precisely due to the presence of this mode.

Launch Fastboot Mode

A considerable number of users who were not interested in interfering with their gadgets in the bowels have never encountered a boot mode. Those who were involved in changing the firmware or obtaining root rights were most likely forced to start this mode. Such use of the gadget can not be called regular, but in these situations, user actions are subject to certain rules corresponding to the launch of Fastboot. Accordingly, problems at this stage should not exist.

However, situations often arise in which the device starts the fast boot mode on its own, without the owner's command. And the user's actions in this case will depend on the reasons for this behavior of the device: whether it is an accidental error in the operating system, the result of a firmware change, installation of a third-party recovery shell, or failure after gaining root access.

How to exit Fastboot mode

If, instead of the usual OS launch, the user sees on the display a lying android with an open lid and no manipulations with the device have been performed before, then most likely there is no problem as such. It is enough to restart the gadget and the system will boot in normal mode. Although the Android OS, based on the Linux kernel, is quite stable, such one-time crashes are quite rare.

In any case, using a simple reboot, trying to exit Fastboot, as practice shows, is definitely worth it. To do this, just hold the power button for about half a minute, and then turn on the device in the usual way. If a forced reboot did not bring any effect, then there may be several options.

Fast reboot through recovery

This is the name of a special recovery environment that allows you to perform basic manipulations with the system. Exiting Fastboot, as a rule, this method helps quite often. This mode is activated, mainly by simultaneously holding down the power button and volume up key on the turned off device.

The gadget will take some time to process the command, after which the recovery menu will appear on the screen. Following the navigation tips, you need to go to the "reboot" line and confirm the selection (usually all actions are performed using the external buttons of the device: the volume buttons increase or decrease, the power buttons are responsible for the transitions between the items).

Smartphone recovery

Reset to factory settings

It is used just in cases where there were attempts to intervene in the software structure of the device (firmware or obtaining root). These very creeps led to the launch of Fastboot. How to get out of it and reset the system to the factory state will allow the option "Wipe data / factory reset" from the same recovery mode. The operation will completely destroy all user data on the device, so the memory card, as well as the SIM card from gadget should be pulled out in advance.

Battery removal

Full de-energization of device circuits can sometimes bring results, and the gadget will load in normal mode without any problems. However, such a way to exit fastboot on Android, as already understood, is suitable only for owners of smartphones with removable batteries. And there are less and less of them every year, since manufacturers of gadgets are increasingly releasing models with integrated batteries.

Fastboot Mode on Android. How to log out using a PC

If for one reason or another, transferring the device to normal mode is not feasible without external intervention, you can use a computer. To do this, you need to install the special package "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" on the PC. You can download it from the official website of the developers, where it is freely available.

ADB or Android Debug Bridge - a utility that is part of the Android development environment. With its help, it is possible both to exit Fastboot (in conjunction with the Fastboot application) and to perform many operations on the device: managing the system partition, changing the firmware, installing and removing software, obtaining root rights, and much more.

PC connection

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Download and install the utility package (do not change the default path).
  2. Check the functionality of the software. To do this, enter on the command line the full "cd C: \ Minimal ADB and Fastboot" package, and then type "adbhelp". If the result of the executed command approximately matches the screenshot, you can proceed to the next step.
  3. Connect the problem device to the computer via the USB interface.
  4. Enter the command "fastboot reboot".
    ADB + Fastboot

Performing all these actions will enable you to disable Android Fastboot and exit, as often happens, into the normal boot mode of the device.
