Some tips for cooking fondue at home

Fondue came to us from Switzerland. Initially, it included ingredients such as cheese and wine, which were set on fire, and after everything turned into a mixture, small pieces of homemade bread were dipped into it. Currently, this dish is being prepared almost all over the world, using completely different ingredients. Much has been written about how to cook fondue, while in order to cook this dish, it is not necessary to have any special skills and exotic products.

If we talk about how to cook cheese fondue, then cheese, spices, a little white wine or cherry tincture, as well as any products that are at hand: bread, vegetables, meat, seafood, are quite enough for this. This dish is prepared very quickly, so you should take it immediately before the arrival of the guests or a few minutes before the start of the holiday.

First, a little wine is poured into the dishes, which is slightly heated over a small fire. After that, cheese is gradually added. In order for it to melt better, it is better to crumble it from the beginning. After the bubbles appear on the surface of the mixture, spices are added to it (usually they take black pepper and nutmeg, but you can take others to your taste), as well as chopped garlic clove. After this, the processed cheese is kept on fire for about three minutes, however, you can’t let it boil and then remove from the heat, but a small burning candle is placed under it, which will not allow the mixture to freeze.

Small pieces of vegetables (carrots, potatoes, broccoli and others), toasted crisp bread, peeled seafood or boiled meat fillet are put on skewers, dipped in a mixture and, after the cheese cools down a bit, is eaten.

Before you cook fondue, you should take care of the dishes. For this, special sets are used, most often made of heat-resistant ceramics, copper or stainless steel. They usually include a deep bowl, in which the mixture will be prepared, as well as several small cups and special forks with two cloves. However, if there is no such set, then you can use a bowl made of any heat-resistant material and having a suitable size and volume. Instead of forks, you can take toothpicks or small skewers of bamboo for barbecue.

Before preparing chocolate fondue, it is better to take care of the water bath in which the chocolate will melt. If you do this on a regular fire, it can burn up or gather in a lump, it’s better to use a candle so that the mixture does not solidify, and not as a way of melting (which is quite inefficient).

About how to cook fondue from chocolate, it is worth saying in more detail, since such a dessert is becoming more common. Chocolate is better to take high-quality, well-known brands, its appearance (dark, bitter, etc.) depends on the taste preferences of the cooker. You can experiment by adding several types at once. In addition, you will need a little alcoholic drink (for example, whiskey, cognac, rum, liqueur) and spices (vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, etc.). For a more pleasant taste, you can add a little butter; for those who love a newer, we recommend taking more sugar. The chocolate mixture is diluted with cream.

Speaking about how to cook fondue made of chocolate, it is worth mentioning that it goes well with it. Of course, there are a lot of options. The most universal option would be slices of buns or bread (you can take different types). You can also take fruits or berries. If the mixture turned out to be sweet, then it is better to take acidic, for example, citrus fruits, gooseberries; if bitter chocolate was used, then it is recommended to take fruits sweeter, here the most effective option may be strawberries, bananas, or a combination of both.
