Many laptop owners believe they will never have to repair a laptop’s hard drive. In this case, such confidence is not unfounded. Any laptop is initially designed to work in conditions of increased vibration, shaking, temperature exposure. The components used and the design itself are designed for such operation, because the laptop is expected to be able to work normally, for example, when driving a car on a dirt road.
Unfortunately, despite this, sometimes
requires a replacement hard drive in the laptop. Unsuccessfully parked heads, a defect in the magnetic coating, a malfunction of electronic circuits - the causes of malfunctions can be very different. Well, if the
warranty period has not expired by this time, but what if it is over? There are two solutions: replacing the hard drive in a laptop can be done independently, or for a fee, this work will be done at a service center. In fact, there is nothing complicated in this operation, and with due care, even a schoolboy can do it.
Let's remember how the hard drive (hard drive) is replaced in the "big brother" of the laptop - a personal computer:
- the used interface of the hard drive and the motherboard is determined;
- a decision is made on the required amount of disk space;
- from the assortment offered by the market, the desired manufacturer is selected. Performance, noise level, additional functions are taken into account.
So simple. Replacing a hard drive in a laptop involves following the same points with some additions.
Currently, there are two types of interface - parallel (PATA, IDE) and
serial
(Serial, SATA). In modern computer models, the former is no longer used. There are two ways to define it:
1. Remove the hard drive and inspect the cable connection connector. Narrow is SATA, and wide is IDE;
2. Using diagnostic programs (AIDA64, Sandra) determine the alphanumeric designation of the hard drive and through the Network to find out the complete data about it.
Replacing a hard drive in a laptop involves an important point - the selection of the device in size and shape. There are sizes of 2.5 and 1.8 inches, you need to purchase the same as the old one. The higher the spindle speed, the more productive the model.
Turn off the power, remove the battery. On the underside of the laptop you can see a separate cover, indicated by the cylinder icon. We unscrew the retaining screws, pry the cover and remove it. The hard drive is placed on a special platform-sled. If they are screwed, then we also unscrew the screws. Now it’s enough to gently pull the hard drive in the opposite direction from the connector. There is no need to pry it with anything - a special plastic “tongue” is provided on the rails for extending the device. It remains to disconnect the device from the platform and install the replacement in the reverse order.
After that, in rare cases, it may be necessary to upgrade the system BIOS to a newer version.
