What is BDRip?

It is regrettable to admit that advances in computing and multimedia technologies, in addition to obvious advantages, have a number of negative qualities. For example, since several years ago, providers at an affordable cost provided Internet access at speeds of 1 to 5 megabits, users who wanted to download a feature film from the global Web were forced to understand very well the question “What is quality?”. After all, hardly anyone felt the joy of re-searching and many hours of downloading a better rip. Now, with the advent of 100 megabit tariff plans, this feature has partially begun to lose its relevance, although we still need to know what BDRip and other designations are. Reviews of connoisseurs of cinema art show that the higher the quality of the video stream, the more pleasant the viewing. If the file is searched for a home video library, then its quality should be perfect. The definitions “HDRip, BDRip, DVDRip quality” and others allow you to indirectly identify some important parameters of a video recorded in a file.

The vast majority of multimedia data streams (video, sound) are now subjected to special software processing - compression (compression). For example, the well-known “mp3” format is a vivid representative of sound compression. With video, it’s more and more difficult, since there are many compression formats and each of them has certain advantages. This explains that the de facto standard in this area has not yet appeared.

Currently, all licensed films are distributed on CD-ROM. First it was a CD, then a DVD, and finally Blu-Ray. Obviously, before placing a movie from a disc on the Internet, it must be converted into a convenient format: reduce the size, and turn a complex structure into a single file. For this, grabber programs are used. The video file received at the output is called "rip" (from the English. Ripping - tearing off).

It's easy to understand what BDRip is - a rip of a Blu-ray disc. Since the volume of such media is greatest among CDs, the sound is usually high-quality multi-channel. Those who are interested in what BDRip is, should know that there are several varieties of such rips that differ significantly in picture quality. For example, “BDRip 720p” indicates that the image consists of 720 dots-rows in height. But the name “BDRip 1080p” indirectly indicates the best quality currently implemented by the standard - 1920 × 1080 (Full HD).

The answer to the question "What is BDRip?" It is not limited to the displayed number of dots-lines horizontally and vertically. The type of horizontal scan used also matters. There are two varieties of it: interlaced and progressive. They are respectively denoted by the letters “i” and “p”. It is believed that progressive allows you to get a more detailed image. When using it, the lines of each frame are displayed sequentially. Interlaced, as the name implies, forms a frame of two half-frames: first even lines, and then odd. Thanks to the inertia of human vision, the illusion of a holistic image is created. The load on the decoder during interlacing is less, which should be taken into account by owners of low-power graphics cards and weak processors. Here is an example: the designation "BDRip 1080i" indicates a picture with a resolution of 1920x1080 and interlaced. By the way, 1080i gives higher quality than 720p.

Sometimes there are BDRip files up to 3 GB in size on the Web. In this case, we are talking about a very high-quality DVDrip, since although the original disc was Blu-Ray, in order to reduce the occupied space, the number of image points was reduced. For example, the same 720 pixels can be used in width as in the standard DVD format. Often a competitor to rips with Blu-ray discs is HDTV (high-definition television), although with some reservations.
