The phenomenal record in the long jump from a place: numbers that no one was able to surpass

Long jumps are a strength exercise that was included in the program of the Olympic Games back in ancient Greece. For its productive performance, athletes need to make a lot of effort to push off and gain the necessary speed for the most effective climb up.

History of development

Athletics (long jump with a running start, marathon distances, hammer throwing, spears and other types of exercises) has become an effective impetus to the development of sports in general.

The first record in long jumps from a place was set back in Ancient Greece, when this exercise was decided to be performed with dumbbells in hand. The weight of additional weighting agents, as a rule, ranged from 2 to 10 pounds. The result of jumping in such a situation depended on how efficiently a person waved dumbbells. The athlete had to push off and take out the weights so that at the time of flight the legs and arms were located in front of the body. Active hand movement just before the landing freed from dumbbells, thereby significantly increasing the flight distance.

Most of the time, Greek athletes honed the styles of the exercise, they did not need a record in long jumps from a place. Therefore, specific data on power indicators established at that time, you will not be able to find anywhere.

Current stage

The current level of development of athletics began in the nineteenth century. At this time, athletes actively performed various types of jumps. Especially often there was a flight with knees high in front of you in the air, legs bent strongly back and running movements. The modern way to perform the “scissors” type of jump has a long-standing prototype invented by Mayer Princestein in 1898.

Long Jump Record

Few exercises of a great sport can be compared with movements that are natural to humans. But jumps belong to such a group, which is why they became part of international competitions even during the existence of Ancient Greece.

When in 1860 a jump from a place was included in the student program at Oxford University, the winner was Mike Powell, showing the result of 5.28 m. But this was only the beginning of his fast-paced career.

On August 30, 1991, Mike Powell set a phenomenal record in long jumps from a place that no one has yet managed to beat. He managed to jump to a distance of 8.95 m.

The first women's record was set back in 1928 thanks to the efforts of the representative of Japan, Kinue Hitomi, but he was beaten more than once by other athletes, and now the record is 7.52 meters.
