Hand gestures

Psychology has learned to interpret almost all human-specific gestures, explaining their meaning, because they can express almost as much as facial expressions. Talking using gestures is sometimes much more expressive and informative than verbal communication. Our hands, for example, can show our true attitude to the interlocutor, talk about our mood, condition, intentions and experiences. Some of the gestures are positive and need to be used more often, some are negative and need to be controlled.

Some hand gestures have a very obvious meaning, they are understandable, and some can only be read by specialists. There are also gestures that we make intuitively, not realizing that they are peculiar to us in general. Unfortunately, precisely such gestures can harm us, because they are easily read by the interlocutors.

Stroking the forehead with fingers means bewilderment and reflection.

Hand gestures such as rubbing your palms convey positive expectations. This is a kind of signal about the positive mood of a person, his confidence in a favorable development of events.

Opened palms upwards demonstrate openness and sincerity.

Free, relaxed hands indicate calm, peaceful state.

Scratching the chin indicates a pondering decision.

Such gestures of hands as self-contained hands in pockets of trousers with a thumb left outside also speak of self-confidence.

A hand barrier in which one is placed across the body, securing itself to the other, freely extended downward, indicates self-doubt, often it is used in an unfamiliar environment.

Touching your face with your hands may reveal a desire to tell a lie. It is believed that in such circumstances, a person is characterized by the desire to unconsciously cover his eyes, mouth or ears with his hands. Such gestures are best avoided so as not to create a false impression on the interlocutor.

Hands behind his back with wrists locked in the castle indicate that the person is upset and is trying to control himself, put his thoughts in order, and calm down after unpleasant experiences.

Crossed arms indicate a defensive position, protection from the environment. Hand gestures are also of the same importance when fists are involuntarily clenched or fingers dig into some object so that the knuckles lightly whiten.

If the hand is near the chin, the index finger is located along the cheek, and the rest are below the level of the mouth, then the person is critical of the situation or in relation to the interlocutors.

The hand slightly covers the mouth - it means that they are trying to conceal something from you or experience distrust.

Pay attention to how people behave when meeting or shaking hands. If a person holds his hand so that it is on top of yours, then he seeks to demonstrate his superiority over you. If his hand is extended so that yours is on top, then he is ready to obey. But if you clasp your hand with both hands at once, you should be wary, because such a gesture indicates that they want to receive something from you or, at least, to nourish your energy.

Tapping on the table with fingers expresses impatience, indiscriminate fingering - nervousness.

Hands rested on their sides demonstrate arrogance and attempts to show their own superiority over the interlocutor. These are negative hand gestures.

The hands on the knees folded with palms inward (in a sitting position) express respectfulness and even submission. If the interlocutor clasped his hands on his knees or touches the table seat, then he does not want to continue the conversation and is set to complete it as soon as possible.

The clutch of the hands with the interlacing of the fingers shows disappointment and the desire to hide their negative attitude to the events. Learn to control hand gestures and you can achieve a lot.
