SMD engines are diesel engines. Their production was established back in 1958 at the Kharkov plant. Engines of mass production of this brand were intended for operation in agricultural machinery - tractors, combines, etc. However, in 2003, production was discontinued, as the manufacturer closed.

The line of six-cylinder V-shaped engines of the SMD is represented by such motors as the SMD 60 ... 65 and their more powerful versions - these are the SMD 72 and 73.

According to its design features, the SMD 60 is a four-stroke power unit with direct diesel injection. Of the main parts of this engine stands out the crankcase. In this type of motor, it is designed to combine cylinders into one solid block and add to them the upper part of the crankcase crankcase. The necessary rigidity in such a motor is achieved due to the presence of partitions between the cylinders and the end walls of the crankcase.

If crankcase oil is released through the exhaust pipe, then as a repair work, it is necessary to operate the engine for a short time at low or idle speed. If oil was ejected through the flywheel housing, there are two reasons for this: the self-moving oil seal was deformed, the gearbox o-ring was cut off. SMD-62

The installation of such engines is carried out on T-150 tractors. The unit itself consists of such parts as: a crankcase, a crank mechanism, two cylinder heads, a cooling system and a lubrication system, a gas distribution mechanism.

The placement of the cylinders in such a motor is carried out at an angle of 90 degrees or 1.53 radians. Also, these cylinders are made as a single unit with the upper part of the crankcase. For the implementation of the fuel cleaning process in this engine, there are two types of filters. One is designed for fine fuel cleaning, the other for rough cleaning. In order to clean the air entering the cylinders, an air purification system is provided in the engine, which is presented in the form of paper filter elements. In order to start this engine, a single-cylinder gasoline starting engine is used. The transmission of rotation from this engine to the SMD-62 flywheel is carried out by means of a single-stage gearbox.

Cost and reviews about the SMD engine

It is worth noting that the cost of these engines is very low. It can not be compared with imported analogues. All components for these units, which may be needed during the repair, also differ in low cost. It is also worth noting that, despite a long interruption in the production of these models, there are a lot of spare parts for them and it is not difficult to find them, since before these engines too many were produced.

However, it is worth noting that they have a low cost for a reason. Reviews about SMD-21, for example, are not the most pleasant. Despite the fact that major repairs were carried out once a year, the maximum speed was only 80 km / h when driving from a hill and squeezed out the clutch, and if you did not squeeze it out - then 60 km / h. Also, the owners talked about the fact that everything was constantly spinning from vibration in the engine. The only plus that stood out according to user reviews was the fuel consumption, which was only 20 liters per 100 km.
