SMD engines are diesel engines. Their production was established back in 1958 at the Kharkov plant. Engines of mass production of this brand were intended for operation in agricultural machinery - tractors, combines, etc. However, in 2003, production was discontinued, as the manufacturer closed.
General information
The SMD engine lineup includes such motors as:
- four-cylinder in-line cylinders;
- six-cylinder in-line;
- units with six cylinders V-shaped.
It is also important to note that any of these motors is highly reliable. This parameter is provided due to correctly adopted design decisions, which even by current standards may well ensure the long life of this motor. To date, the production of this type of units has been established at the Belgorod Motor Plant.
Technical specifications
The technical characteristics of the SMD engines are as follows:
- The working volume of the cylinders is 9.15 liters.
- The power of this unit is 160 hp.
- The number of crankshaft rotations reaches 2000 rpm, the nominal minimum value is 800 rpm, and the maximum nominal value is 2180 rpm.
- The number of cylinders in SMD engines is 6.
- The locations of the cylinders in the engine are V-shaped, while the camber angle is 90 degrees.
- The diameter of each cylinder is 130 mm.
- The piston stroke is 115 mm.
- The cooling system of this motor is water, closed type, and is also equipped with forced ventilation.
- In the characteristics of the SMD engine, a combined lubrication system is also provided, the starting system is presented in the form of a P-350 starting engine with remote start.
Installation of such engines is carried out on such types of tractors as T-150, T-153, T-157.
Engine description
The line of six-cylinder V-shaped engines of the SMD is represented by such motors as the SMD 60 ... 65 and their more powerful versions - these are the SMD 72 and 73.
According to its design features, the SMD 60 is a four-stroke power unit with direct diesel injection. Of the main parts of this engine stands out the crankcase. In this type of motor, it is designed to combine cylinders into one solid block and add to them the upper part of the crankcase crankcase. The necessary rigidity in such a motor is achieved due to the presence of partitions between the cylinders and the end walls of the crankcase.
This engine is cooled with water. In winter, this system allows the replacement of water with antifreeze. The system has a centrifugal water pump, which provides the necessary circulation of fluid throughout the closed cooling system.
Service
Maintenance of these engines comes down to the fact that constant monitoring of its operation is required, as well as the timely conduct of routine maintenance, which are prescribed in the operating instructions for each engine. The manufacturer can guarantee that: the motor will work for a long time and without fail; maintain all its power indicators throughout the entire service life; differ in high profitability; only if the necessary maintenance specified in the instructions is provided.
SMD engines are most often used for repair due to the fact that malfunctions arise, and they, in turn, appear only due to non-compliance with operating rules. If crankcase oil is released through the exhaust pipe, then as a repair work, it is necessary to operate the engine for a short time at low or idle speed. If oil was ejected through the flywheel housing, there are two reasons for this: the self-moving oil seal was deformed, the gearbox o-ring was cut off. As a repair, it is necessary to replace the failed parts.
SMD-23, SMD-24, SMD-31A
The arrangement of SMD engines of this line is as follows:
- four-stroke diesel engines ;
- direct fuel injection into the chamber in the piston;
- has a liquid cooling system;
- equipped with a turbocharger and an intermediate cooling system of the air pumped into the cylinders.
The technical parameters of these engines are also fully consistent with current requirements. The liter capacity of the SMD 23 is 19.9 kW / l, and for the SMD-31A engine is 18.2 kW / l. The specific metal consumption of these engines, as well as the specific fuel consumption, are also at a high level. Oil consumption for waste ranges from 0.4% to 0.5% with respect to fuel consumption. The achievement of such high performance was made possible due to the fact that the system uses turbocharging of air into the cylinders, as well as cooling of the charge air. In addition, these engines also realize oil cooling of the pistons, damping of torsional vibrations and improved temperature conditions of the diesel engine through the introduction of a water-oil heat exchanger.
SMD-62
The installation of such engines is carried out on T-150 tractors. The unit itself consists of such parts as: a crankcase, a crank mechanism, two cylinder heads, a cooling system and a lubrication system, a gas distribution mechanism.
The placement of the cylinders in such a motor is carried out at an angle of 90 degrees or 1.53 radians. Also, these cylinders are made as a single unit with the upper part of the crankcase. For the implementation of the fuel cleaning process in this engine, there are two types of filters. One is designed for fine fuel cleaning, the other for rough cleaning. In order to clean the air entering the cylinders, an air purification system is provided in the engine, which is presented in the form of paper filter elements. In order to start this engine, a single-cylinder gasoline starting engine is used. The transmission of rotation from this engine to the SMD-62 flywheel is carried out by means of a single-stage gearbox.
Cost and reviews about the SMD engine
It is worth noting that the cost of these engines is very low. It can not be compared with imported analogues. All components for these units, which may be needed during the repair, also differ in low cost. It is also worth noting that, despite a long interruption in the production of these models, there are a lot of spare parts for them and it is not difficult to find them, since before these engines too many were produced.
However, it is worth noting that they have a low cost for a reason. Reviews about SMD-21, for example, are not the most pleasant. Despite the fact that major repairs were carried out once a year, the maximum speed was only 80 km / h when driving from a hill and squeezed out the clutch, and if you did not squeeze it out - then 60 km / h. Also, the owners talked about the fact that everything was constantly spinning from vibration in the engine. The only plus that stood out according to user reviews was the fuel consumption, which was only 20 liters per 100 km.
