Almost daily, more and more pieces of ice are breaking off from the ice shell of Greenland, the sizes of which in most cases are truly huge. How does all this threaten our planet? The worst thing is that the melting of the glaciers of 2012 can cause a catastrophic rise in the level of the World Ocean. Scientists predict that after the full melting of the Greenland ice, it can grow immediately by 6 meters. Especially pessimistic scientists predict the possibility of a sharp displacement of tectonic plates due to their rapid release from under the incredible mass that has pressed them for more than a millennium. If these forecasts come true, then the melting of the glaciers can provoke the emergence of a second "ring of fire" of volcanoes on the planet. Only this time, the eruption centers will not be in the Pacific Ocean, which is relatively safe for us, but right off the coast of Europe.
Can such terrifying consequences be prevented? Unfortunately, only in part. We cannot completely stop the running process of ice disappearance on the planet.
