Danish goalkeeper Casper Schmeichel

Everyone remembers goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel , who was one of the strongest guardians of the gates of his time. Now, his son Casper Schmeichel, who defends the colors of the English Leicester, has replaced him. He is also the main goalkeeper of the Denmark national football team, like his father. However, Casper Schmeichel did not start his career at Leicester, in what clubs did the Dane manage to play?

Career start at Manchester City

Casper Schmeichel

Casper Schmeichel was born on November 5, 1986 in Denmark, but a football vocation brought him far from his homeland already in his teens. In 2000, he moved to Portugal, where he was part of the local Estoril club system, but only for two years. In 2002, the 16-year-old goalkeeper signed the English Manchester City. Two years later, when the Dane turned eighteen, the club offered him a professional contract, which Schmeichel gladly agreed to. However, it was too early to rejoice: the young goalkeeper had no chance to get into the main team. For a whole year he sat on the bench, speaking exclusively for the clubโ€™s double, until it was decided to rent it out. And Schmeichel eventually set out to gain experience at Darlington, who played in the Second League.

Rent

At Darlington, Casper Schmeichel, whose biography has so far evolved far from his famous fatherโ€™s, spent only one month playing in four games. Then followed a year of rent at Bury, where Schmeichel was the main goalkeeper and entered the field in 29 matches. After that, the stakes were increased, and Casper went to the High League of Scotland, where he joined the Falkirk for six months. There he played in 17 games and went on a regular lease - he returned to Manchester City. During the 07/08 season, he managed to play in the club in seven matches, but also visited two more clubs on loan: first at Cardiff City, where he spent 14 matches, and then at Coventry City, where he played nine more matches. The following season, the 22-year-old goalkeeper was already on the Manchester City bench and played three more matches, after which it was decided to sell it.

Transition to Notts County

In the summer of 2009, the 23-year-old goalkeeper moved to the club of the Notts County second division, who paid two million euros for him. There the Dane spent an incredible season, having played 49 matches. And as early as the next year he moved to the more eminent Leeds.

In total, Schmeichel played over these five years in 220 matches, and this season he appeared on the field eight more times, five of which defended to zero. And 2014 was also remembered for the fact that Casper followed in the footsteps of his father. In the last minute, he ran into the opponent's penalty box when his team was losing, and scored a head. Casper Schmeichel's goal caused a violent reaction, as he saved his team from defeat and repeated what his father had done before.
