FKP "Plant named after Ya. M. Sverdlov" (Dzerzhinsk) is one of the leaders in the defense complex of Russia. This is the largest research and production association in the military-industrial complex in terms of technological capacities and volume of production. The profile of the company is the production of ammunition and explosives.
The beginning of the way
The history of the Sverdlov plant began in 1915. On June 18, the Military Council of the Russian Empire decided to build a new state-owned explosives plant . The construction site was determined Nizhny Novgorod province. According to the general plan, production workshops were built at the same time as houses for workers, a school, shops, churches and other infrastructure.
The change of government in 1917 did not stop construction. On the contrary, the nascent Red Army was in dire need of ammunition. The plant, which received the name of Sverdlov, forced the work, the first TNT production was launched. Thanks to the new explosive material, the efficiency of the extractive industries (especially during coal mining) and in construction (when laying tunnels, channels, large-scale earthworks) increased. The Nizhny Novgorod plant for these services in 1924 was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
Guard the motherland
With the beginning of the Second World War, the enterprise assumed a special responsibility - to supply the Red Army with ammunition and explosives without interruption. During this period, the plant expanded production, enriched the assortment of military products, and introduced new developments. In general, he made a significant breakthrough in development. For example, every second shell for artillery and every third air bomb was fired by the Sverdlov plant.
Over the years of the Second World War, more than 1,500 employees were awarded orders, medals, valuable gifts, diplomas for labor heroism, and the enterprise itself was awarded the Order of the Battle Red Banner.
From war to peace
In the postwar years, the Sverdlov plant survived several conversions. Peaceful products were actively developed, assimilated industries developed, dual-use goods were produced. In the workshops, automated control systems were introduced, the auxiliary base of the enterprise was expanded. At the same time, modern equipment systems and unique explosives were developed. For labor services in 1971, the government awarded the team the third order - the October Revolution.
Since 1972, the plant started producing octogen, becoming the flagship of the military industry of the USSR. Here experimental technologies were worked out, then introduced in other specialized industries.
New time
By 2000, the era of the "arms race" was over. FKP "Sverdlov Plant" today updated production facilities in order to expand and diversify products. A significant amount is occupied by products for the oil and gas, mining and construction industries.
The plant is a unique combination of science and high culture of production. FKP has its own scientific and technical center. It occupies 3,500 m 2 of pilot production and laboratory facilities. Together with the design bureau, dozens of innovative technologies introduced into production have been recently developed.

The plant named after Ya. M. Sverdlov is an industrial site with a thousand buildings covering an area of about 1100 hectares. Production equipment complies with generally accepted safety standards SRPP VT and ISO9001. To reduce the costs of energy-intensive operations, they built their own CHP and a water treatment system.
Over 90 km of railways and 120 km of roads were laid inland. The rolling stock includes 900 railway wagons and 200 units of automotive equipment. Products are delivered, including by water: on the balance sheet of the enterprise are 3 vessels.

In addition, ammunition is disposed of from 32 to 152 mm by the hydrodynamic method and liquid rocket fuel. The resulting components are reused in the industrial cycle.
Explosives and ammunition
The Sverdlov plant is the only one in the Russian Federation who produces a full range of blasting explosives, compositions and products based on them. In production:
- Octogen brand NMX, which is an important component of rocket solid fuel. Also used in the manufacture of cumulative charges and detonating cords.
- RDX brand RDX. Included in the explosive compositions of air bombs, ammunition of increased power, charges for explosive equipment and perforators.
- Pentaerythritol tetranitrate - a substance for explosive mixtures, detonator capsules and cords.
- TNT. available as granules or in flakes.
On their basis, the plant also manufactures final products: cumulative charges, cumulative torpedoes, detonator drafts, TNT drafts, etc. Modern equipment manufacturing allows the production of fully finished ammunition. The company collaborates with specialized research institutes, constantly improving product characteristics.
For the metallurgical, oil and gas, mining industries produce:
- shaped charges with glass, steel or plastic shells;
- trotyl-containing checkers, ammonals and ammonites;
- pressed cumulative charges;
- grammonites.
Chemical production
The Sverdlov Plant has mastered a wide range of industrial chemistry:
- epoxy resins;
- phenol formaldehyde resins;
- acetic anhydride;

- ethyl acetate;
- urea-formaldehyde concentrate 4
- red phosphorus;
- nitrobenzene;
- Bakelite varnishes;
- ceresin-100;
- strontium nitrate;

- other substances.
Finished products are also produced. For example, the additive “Ecocitat” for diesel fuel, “Arzamit-5” putty with chemically stable properties, “Litol-24” grease, solid oil, Sintek coolant and others.
Engineering
The list of engineering works is extensive - from welding and processing of materials to the release of technologically sophisticated equipment. Among the main areas:
- Processing blanks from non-ferrous metals, steel, cast iron, non-metallic products.
- Cutting, turning and milling (including CNC), drilling, grinding, rolling of sheet metal, bending of pipes , etc.
- Heat treatment in chamber and mine electric furnaces with heating temperatures up to 1000 C. Carry out hardening, tempering, and normalization of metal products. On the HDTV installations, surface and through hardening, hardfacing of hard-alloy components are carried out.
- Processing complex surfaces and cutting workpieces along any trajectory by electroerosion.
- Manufacture of equipment, tools and measuring tools for molding plastics and non-ferrous alloys.
- Equipment for chemical production: capacitive devices, heat exchangers, all-welded and plinth columns.
- All types of welding with weld quality control.
- Production of non-standard equipment: pumps, valves, conveyors, metal structures, etc.

The Sverdlov plant is located close to Moscow on the Volga federal highway. Its sales network is constantly growing. Among the partners of the enterprise are the largest Russian companies: Gazprom, Lukoil, Geotech, Rusal, Rosneft, Apatit, Norilsk Nickel, Kalashnikov, Severstal and many others.
