Kostenko Sergey, having graduated from the hockey school Novokuznetsk, began to speak for the "Kuznetsk bears." His first appearance for this club coincided with the debut of the team in the MHL.
In its first game, the club met with the favorite of the league - Ufa “Tolpar”. “Kuznetsk Bears” in a bitter struggle were defeated with a score of 3: 4. The first victory in the MHL for this young goalkeeper took place in Tolyatti on September 8, 2009. After half the season, Sergey played Kostenko for the first time in this league without missing a single goal. In his first year at the MHL, Kostenko won silver medals with his team.
The next season was unsuccessful for the beginning goalkeeper. Kostenko Sergey received little playing time. Over the entire season, he went out onto the ice and won 6 victories with the team. “Kuznetsk Bears” at the end of the regular season could not break into the playoffs. Only in the 2011-2012 season did Kostenko become the main goalkeeper of his team, having spent 40 games for her.
Departure overseas
Specialists from the Washington club became interested in Sergey. They selected him in the 7th round of the draft. The leadership of the Novokuznetsk “Metallurg”, though not immediately, but still allowed him to leave. In the strongest league in the world, this goalkeeper failed to play. A short time later he was exchanged by teams from the AHL league. Having gained experience, this young goalkeeper decided to return to his home club again.
International career
Kostenko Sergey was regularly involved in the national team for speaking at international tournaments. He joined the junior team to participate in the World Cup, which was held in 2010. Our team showed decent hockey, and everyone included it in the list of favorites. But she could not win medals in this tournament. In a match for bronze medals, the Russian team lost a crushing score to the Finnish national team. Sergey Kostenko, a hockey player from Kuzbass, was also included in the list of players who played for the national team at the 2012 World Youth Championship. But before the tournament itself, he became the third goalkeeper. Having not played a single game at this championship, Kostenko nevertheless became the silver medalist of the youth world championship.
