Russia continues to set new standards in the areas of functionality and comfort of protection for military personnel. So, the new model of the ballistic helmet of the first class of protection "Spartanets" was specially developed by the company "VoenProm" in accordance with TU 7399-001-65172309-2014.
Helmet designation
The helmet was created in order to protect the fighter’s head not only from bullets of all types of pistols, V50% fragments, but also pistol-machine gun bullets with a caliber of less than 0.44 Magnum. In addition, the helmet is designed to prevent injuries from hitting the head with heavy objects or a person falling from a height.
It will not be pierced, for example, by a powerful 11-mm cartridge from a revolver. The weight of such a bullet is 240 grain. This corresponds to 15.55 grams. If you compare it with other bullets, then 9 x 19 weighs 5.8 g, and 7.7 g weighs a 9 x 21 bullet.
So, a bullet fired in this helmet from a Tokarev pistol could not penetrate it, causing only a slight swelling on its back. The Yarygin pistol was not able to break through the defense at all. An armor-piercing cartridge 9 x 19 pierced this helmet, however, like any other.
Shatter protection
As for the fragments, Russia adopted its standard in the form of a ball of steel, the diameter of which is 6.35 mm and the weight is 1.05 grams. Tests of the protective qualities of armor are based on the assumption that a fragment flying at a speed of 650 m / s and falling into the helmet must penetrate no more than 50% of the thickness of the armor.
To provide a larger area of protection, a completely new design is used in the helmet model.
Ballistic helmet design features
Structurally, the helmet "Spartan Bear force" consists of a pair of segments independent from each other. They significantly reduce shock load and serve to maximize head protection.
In addition, due to their application, passive cooling is also achieved. As a result, comfort is also enhanced - the helmet fits better to the occipital region of the head, which is important when used in the supine position. Previous models in this situation crawled into my eyes, interfering with this review.
Sub-body device
Team Wendy pillows are used in the sub-neck device, which is important because they include material such as Zorbium, which can provide unique head protection. The belt suspension system (also Team Wendy) is securely attached to the head due to the double mechanism with a clamping flywheel behind and additional fixation on the chin.
Team Wendy Epic Air Pads - pillows located in two layers. 1 layer - black pillows used to fit individual requirements. They can be rearranged to make it easier to wear a helmet. And you can remove it completely if, for example, a hat is put on. These small pillows are attached to the main ones with Velcro. The front part is made of a special material that does not allow sweat to fill the eyes, perfectly absorbing it with increased activity.
2 layer - gray, the main pillows, the purpose of which is to extinguish energy from the impact. Material - Zorbium. This is a foam made of polyurethane, which allows absorbing the energy of impacts, which does not change its properties when environmental parameters change. She is not afraid of moisture and is extremely resistant to fire. The pillows made in this way do not interfere with their comfortable use in conjunction with active headphones.
If you remove the pillows from the helmet, you can notice the black inserts. These are the air ducts for ventilating the helmet. Pillows are attached using standard Velcro mugs.
Peripheral Mount
On the Spartan helmet, it is possible to install a night vision device. It is mounted on a special shroud.
Helmets and cameras are installed on rails located on the sides of the helmet, if necessary. Adapters for glasses or headphones are integrated. When parachuting, you can connect an oxygen mask.
In addition, the helmet design provides for the possibility of installing a special visor, side shields and a special type of ballistic protection for the chin.
Velcro Velcro straps are located on the sides and back of the helmet, which are used to attach patches or battery compartments. They are necessary for the operation of night devices. Or, they can be fixed with special balances that serve to balance when the NVD is used (in the back of the ballistic helmet).

The Spartan helmet is supplied by the manufacturer in a rather soft case, regardless of model and version. Inside the cover there is enough free space, therefore, in addition to the helmet itself, it is possible, for example, to store replaceable covers in it.
In addition to the fact that it is possible to choose the required helmet size, the table also allows you to choose the color of the cover. They are available in MULTICAM, ATACS-FG, ATACS-AU and black.
The protective helmet looks quite impressive, the matte color for cartoons by aquaprint technology does not glare in the sun and has a remission in the infrared spectrum of zero. And therefore, in the night vision device, the helmet will not glow.
Side view
In addition to shroud for night vision devices (night vision devices), there are rubber bands on the sides to enhance their fixation in the bracket. If you do not need NVD, but a flashlight, then the bracket is perfect for attaching it - grooves with almost no play.
When viewing the helmet from the side, two halves are clearly visible, fastened with special bolts. This specific form provides several advantages.
Helmet hemisphere design advantages
- The new helmet shape made it easy to enlarge the back of the helmet. This allowed the occiput to be completely closed. At the same time, the helmet fits quite tightly to it. Achieved and increased safety and wearing comfort.
- Due to the composite design of the hemisphere, the ballistic helmet can withstand much greater shock loads than previous versions.
- Due to the gaps between the parts, improved ventilation is provided, and its passive nature is important. Earlier, a head in helmets sweated quite often.
Back view
If you look at the Spartan helmet from the back, you can clearly see the gap between the two parts of the spherical halves of the helmet. When designing this gap, a principle was applied that gives protection as a result of injury from a shrapnel falling into it. Even if he flies into the gap, he won’t get into his head.
Below is a ring to adjust the crimping force of the head. By adjusting it, it is easy to achieve that the helmet will hold firmly and will not fall even with active loads.

The latest Spartan model proved to be a very comfortable and extremely practical protective helmet, which is not hot and which is easily customized to individual requirements.
The weight of a medium-sized helmet, for example M, is a little less than one and a half kilograms, and therefore even an unprepared person can wear it during the day without taking it off.

We look at the side of the helmet. The photo gives a clear idea that the ears of a fighter are not protected. On the one hand, this is a decrease in security, and on the other hand, improved ventilation and additional comfort when wearing active headphones.
