Kostas Manolas is a Greek football player of the Italian club Roma. Today he is only 25 years old, and he is already considered one of the strongest defenders of the world. Manolas acts exclusively in the position of the central defender and in this role he manifests himself best.
Carier start
Kostas Manolas was born on June 14, 1991 in Greece, where he began his football career. At the age of 12, he enrolled in the football academy of the local Pannaksiakos club, where he spent the next four years until he moved to another Greek club, Trasivulos. In his youth, the football player was not considered as a great talent, therefore, not a single major club was interested in him both in Greece and abroad.
In 2009, Costas Manolas signed a professional contract with the small club “Pannaxiakos”, appearing on the field in six matches at a young age. It was this sharp start that became a sudden demonstration of the talent of the player, who was immediately acquired by AEK for a symbolic amount of 50 thousand euros.
Transition to AEK
But even when Kostas Manolas, whose biography was not the most impressive, moved to AEK, he was a very inconspicuous defender. In the first season, the football player entered the field 11 times, scoring one goal, and began to gradually grow, gaining practice in a large club. The next two seasons, he played in 74 games, suddenly becoming a key player for AEK. Naturally, this attracted the attention of larger clubs, including Olympiacos, the strongest club in Greece. Manolas's three-year contract with the club expired in 2012, and at the age of 21 he moved to a new team to a new level.
The game for Olympiacos
Despite his very young age and not the brightest start of his career, Kostas Manolas, whose photographs were now in all sports magazines in Greece, immediately began to show excellent football at Olympiacos. For two seasons, he spent 73 matches, scoring six goals. By 2014, it reached the point that the Greek championship had outgrown. Moreover, the transition was promoted by interest from Roma, which paid 13 million euros for the athlete. And she did not lose, since it was in Roma that the defender grew and reached the peak of his career, becoming one of the strongest central defenders of our time.
Relocation to Italy
When the 23-year-old Manolas moved to Italy, in Roma he was immediately given a place at the base, and he showed his best side, playing immediately in 41 matches. The following season, he spent another 45 matches, scoring two goals, and has already begun to attract the attention of top clubs, in particular the London Chelsea. But the summer transition did not take place, and Kostas remained for another year at Roma, where he had already played 12 matches this season.
Team appearances
For the Greek national team, Manolas made his debut in February 2013 in a friendly match against the Swiss national team. Since then, he has already played 27 matches, not marking a single goal so far. In 2014, the football player, along with the team, went to the World Cup, where he acted as the main player and spent all four matches from whistle to whistle. Unfortunately, Greece could not qualify for the 2016 European Championships, but Manolas still has a lot of time ahead to help his national team shine in the upcoming major tournaments.
