CJSC Bryansk Automobile Plant is in its own way a unique automobile enterprise in Russia. Here, the production of wheel tractors of increased cross-country ability of the Voshchina family with a carrying capacity of 14-40 tons has been mastered. A universal dual-purpose platform allows you to mount both civilian equipment (special equipment, cranes, fire systems), and modern weapons (mainly missile). And this is just one example of dozens of other types of enterprise products.
In line with progress
Today, the Bryansk Automobile Plant is the only Russian enterprise producing wheel tractors and chassis combining enviable cross-country ability and high carrying capacity. The history of the enterprise began in 1958, when a single corps was allocated from the Bezhitsky Steel Plant by a series of resolutions of the Council of Ministers of the USSR to organize the production of tractors, motor vehicles, aggregates and spare parts. Very quickly created on the basis of the allocated areas BAZ grew into a strong independent structure.
Over many decades, workers have seen a lot: both the formation step by step of a large enterprise in the 60s, and the hard work at the production that was set up like clockwork in the 70-80s, and the almost complete stop of production with the collapse of the USSR, and a phased revival, which happening before our eyes. Today, BAZ products are not only powerful tractors, but also truck cranes, special equipment for oilmen, gas workers, geologists, repair units, cementing complexes, and, in the future, fire engines. Products are well known in Russia and neighboring countries, the Middle and Middle East, China, India and other parts of the world.
Power in people
Bryansk Automobile Plant (BAZ) has a powerful and continuing to develop production base. But an absolute treasure is the highly intelligent corps of design, engineering and technical personnel, skilled workers, management personnel - in a word, the team. It is not difficult to build new buildings, and growing a galaxy of brilliant engineers and managers is the work of many decades.
Employees of BAZ CJSC are constantly working to improve the technical level and improve the quality of their unique products, focusing on meeting customer requirements and improving management methods.
Achievements in numbers
By the 60th anniversary, the team of one of the flagships of the domestic automotive industry comes up with an enviable track record. In the overgrown workshops, the country's industrial and defense potential was created. The absolute numbers of manufactured products are impressive. Over the entire period of the plant’s development, the main types of products were manufactured:
- T-180, T-140 tractors - 24b613 pcs.;
- cultivators KP-4 - 104 830 pcs.;
- pipelayers D-804 - 5938 pcs.;
- automobile chassis of various modifications - 12 634 units;
- chassis units to ZIL-131 - 1,036,744 sets;
- BTR-152 and ZIL-485 - 2860 pcs.;
- trailers for passenger cars BAZ-8142 - 54,546 pcs .;
- motor vans with a payload of 1.5 t BAZ-3783 - 157 pcs .;
- snow-removing machines D-442 "Blizzard" - 122 pcs .;
- many different items of a large number of consumer goods (household goods), spare parts for cars and tractors, tools, technological equipment and non-standard equipment.
After oblivion in the "dashing" 90s, the Bryansk Automobile Plant spread its wings again. Only for the period from 2002 to 2007, the company manufactured and supplied 582 automobile chassis of various modifications and for different purposes for completing to subcontractors:
- for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation - 234 pcs.,
- for crane construction - 276 pcs.;
- oil and gas complex - 75 pcs.
BAZ currently employs more than 2,000 people.
Historical reference
The impetus for the creation of a new engineering plant was an acute shortage of tractors in the post-war country. On December 1, 1952, the Council of Ministers decided (document No. 5030-1961) to organize the production of industrial heavy tractors at the facilities of the Bezhets Steel Mill.
During this period, the demand for vehicles increased sharply in the country. A number of government decisions on the development of the production of domestic special-purpose vehicles are promptly adopted, the platform for which was the Bryansk Automobile Plant created in 1958. Photos of those years indicate the large-scale construction of new buildings, erected in a short time. At the same time, housing was built for workers, life was being organized, and infrastructure was developing.
In the same 1958, the Bryansk Automobile Plant manufactured 53 T-140 tractors of class 15 tons. In 1959, organized the assembly production of armored personnel carriers BTR-152 and a large floating vehicle ZIL-485.
The beginning of a long journey
Over the next 2.5 years, 819 T-140 tractors were manufactured. For the installation of bulldozer and scraper equipment, the design of pipelayers D-804 was developed. About 400 armored personnel carriers BTR-152V1 and BPA ZIL-485 were manufactured. By the beginning of 1961, the Bryansk Automobile Plant became the second home for 4,629 workers.
In 1965, BAZ switched to the production of more powerful T-180 tractors with a 180-horsepower engine of its own production. The release of tractors in 1965 was brought up to 1000 pcs. per year, pipe layers - up to 70 pcs. The country was in dire need of agricultural machinery. Demand for row cultivators increased. At the initiative of the director of the plant, P. Ya. Petrakov, began the production of cultivating cultivators KP-4M, 4386 of them were manufactured. In 1964, 10,044 cultivators were already manufactured.
During the period from 1964 to 1965, the plant launched mass production of heavy-duty, high-cross-country automobile chassis ZIL-135LM and ZIL-135K and with two engines of 180 liters each. from. For the first time in the practice of domestic automotive industry on this machine, nodes (cab, motor compartment, battery container and others) made of plastic materials were used. And this is just a brief fragment of the great history of the Bryansk Automobile Plant.
Lingering peak
With the collapse of the USSR, the military production of the enterprise was unnecessary. The Bryansk Automobile Plant actually stood up. In the mid-90s, the well-known Treaty on the Elimination of SRD Missiles, including the Oka and Luna complexes, under which the BAZ produced the chassis, was signed. The Ministry of Defense stopped giving orders, and conversion products were poorly developed. The company introduced first arbitration, and then bankruptcy management.
With the titanic efforts of caring employees of the plant management, it was possible to prove the need to maintain and further manufacture tractors and off-road chassis. It was decided to abandon the old models. The stake is made on the new generation “Voshchina-1” heavy-duty trucks that meet modern requirements. A huge merit in this is the General Director of the plant V.I. Gross.
Recent story
In 2001, the reorganized Bryansk Automobile Plant LLC became a partner of the Independent Association of Mechanical Engineers (NAMS). His ties and cooperation with the Ivanovo Autocrane Plant are being strengthened. As a result, production is being mastered and mass production of crane chassis is being established. At the same time, BAZ is fulfilling orders of the Ministry of Defense and the oil and gas complex.
Currently, work is underway to expand the scope of the Voshchina-1 family and the new Voshchina-2 family under development in promising weapon systems and complexes - Triumfator-M and Pechora-2M air defense systems, and the tactical missile system “ Iskander ", coastal missile systems. The possibility of using the BAZ chassis for the installation of various equipment for airfield maintenance equipment, fire engines and tankers with large tanks and other equipment is being worked out.
Thanks to many years of development experience, the presence of a qualified team of specialists and modern equipment, today the company occupies a strong position in the domestic automotive market.
