Rubtsovsky Machine-Building Plant: history, description, products

Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant (Rubtsov branch of NPK Uralvagonzavod since 2011) is a large machine-building enterprise located in Rubtsovsk, Altai Territory. Since its foundation, it specializes in the design and assembly of military and civil tracked vehicles (all-terrain vehicles, tractors, armored vehicles, repair vehicles). Since 2000 , it has been producing a wide range of agricultural machinery.

Rubtsovsky Machine-Building Plant (RMZ)

The beginning of the way

The formation of the Rubtsovsk Machine - Building Plant (RMZ) took place on December 26, 1959. On this day, a technical meeting of the Council of Ministers took place on the approval of a detailed project for the construction of a tracked vehicle plant in Altai. The site for the new production was chosen the city of Rubtsovsk.

In 1961, the production complex was launched, including workshops and sections:

  • Stamping production.
  • Welding and painting.
  • Mechanical.
  • Galvanic.
  • Instrumental.
  • Mechanical assembly.

The main assembly line was launched in the spring of 1962, and by the end of the year the first batch of five “No. 21” products was produced.

Development

During the 8th five-year plan, engineers and workers at the Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant worked fruitfully to create new types of tracked vehicles. Modified all-terrain vehicles-conveyors of the GT-T 21 type were prepared for serial production. By the way, a floating vehicle for forestry and geologists was exhibited at the Exhibition of Ecological Achievements of the USSR, for which RMZ was awarded the 1st Class Prize.

Production steadily expanded. If in 1963 10 GT-T 21 series cars were produced monthly, then in 1966 productivity increased to 120 units. A year later, the Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant began to manufacture individual units (drives, transmissions) for the BMP-1 (AIFV), assembled by the Kurgan Machine Plant (KMZ).

RMZ in 1968 organized a branch for the production of all-terrain vehicles GT-T in Semipalatinsk (Kazakhstan). Since 1977, the production of wheel-ski transport began here. In 1983, the branch acquired the status of an independent enterprise.

In 1973, the Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant mastered the assembly of the commander’s armored vehicles BRM-1K according to the technical documentation “Kurganmashzavod”. In 1979, the RMZ began producing armored vehicles PRP-3 (mobile reconnaissance points), and in 1980 - armored vehicles BMP-1KSh (command and staff). In 1983, the collective's achievements in creating unique Vityaz two-link vehicles with unrivaled cross-country ability were awarded the USSR State Prize and the Order of the Red Banner.

New period

Since the 1990s, Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant OJSC has been actively developing the creation of civilian equipment based on the BMP-1 chassis. It:

  • SKBM-523 - repair and construction special transport with crane-drilling module.
  • MGT-529 - tracked tractor.
  • PGBM-528 - tracked vehicle with a drilling rig.
  • GTTM-536 - tractor.
  • GT-515 is a tracked multi-purpose two-link carrier.
  • MGSh-521 - general-purpose tracked chassis.
  • MGSh-521M1 - a modification of the previous model with an increased wheelbase equipped with a winch.

In addition, the production of tracked track repair flyers of the GPL-520 series, tracked repair vehicles (RMG), forestry equipment (LPA-521), licensed asphalt pavers PF-191, precision seeders of the STK model, and other specialized vehicles and agricultural machinery for the national economy are produced.

In order to optimize the production of military and special equipment in 2011, the Rubtsovsk Machine-Building Plant was transferred to the subordination of NPK Uralvagonzavod. At the same time, the administration managed to preserve not only production capacities, but also specialization, as well as its own design school, which created many interesting engineering solutions and promising developments.

Military equipment

In recent years, RMZ once again drew attention to the release of armored and special military equipment. The assembly of reconnaissance mobile units of the fourth generation PRP-4A is relevant. Their main tasks include:

  • tracking the movement of enemy armored vehicles;
  • detection of masked positions;
  • targeting, adjustment of artillery calculations, linking firing positions.

High maneuverability, buoyancy, sufficient speed (65 km / h), equipped with modern optoelectronic devices allow the product to effectively carry out its tasks.

RMZ also produces another type of reconnaissance vehicle - the BRM-3K. All-weather technology works in conjunction with other intelligence systems, exchanging data in real time. It is distinguished by maneuverability, high speed of movement along the water surface (thanks to built-in water cannons), and good armor protection.

The model range is complemented by an armored repair vehicle of cross-country ability RM-G. Thanks to a powerful winch and a mini-crane, the team is able to quickly replace damaged / broken units and units of armored personnel carriers, tanks, military vehicles. And also to evacuate / tow equipment, including afloat.
