A message appeared: 'Windows IP address conflict detected'. What to do?

This publication addresses a solution to a problem such as an IP address conflict with another system. What causes such problems and how to deal with them? First of all, these things must be treated calmly, since there is no danger of a message stating that a conflict of Windows IP addresses has been detected for your operating system and computer.

A similar phenomenon occurs in certain cases. For example, a conflict of IP addresses is possible when using your local network static. In this case, it is possible to occupy your IP address by another user (employee). A typical situation may be the following: someone brings his laptop from home or computer equipment is being updated , new β€œcars” are being added. This situation can lead to the fact that the IP address that you previously owned is assigned to one of the new computers.

Further events are not hard to guess. There is a conflict of IP addresses and a corresponding message appears from the Windows operating system . After all, such addresses must be strictly unique and analogues are not allowed. The OS message is accompanied, as a rule, by the appearance of the corresponding network connection icon in the tray. As mentioned above, this incident should not cause cause for concern, and the problem itself can be quite simply fixed.

You will, of course, have to change your IP address. Naturally, certain rules for using local networks should be taken into account. In particular, you need to try to avoid occupying someone else's address, which will cause another conflict of IP addresses and a new message from the operating system. We will consider a solution to the issue for Windows Vista, but with the Windows XP operating system installed on a personal computer, the process of eliminating the problem is similar.

First you need to get into the "Control Panel" by clicking the "Start" button and then going to the appropriate tab. If you are still talking about Windows XP, then you will need to select the appropriate "Network Connections" icon and go to "Properties". Next, the steps are the same as for Windows Vista. Find the "Network and Sharing Center" and run it. This will lead to the opening of the corresponding window containing information on this connection.

In theory, it will be clear that everything is normal with him and it is working. However, there is no Internet connection. To resolve the IP address conflict, go to the next item - "View Status". Paying attention to the inscription "IPv-4 connection", you will notice that "Local" is indicated opposite it. This is the problem, and after eliminating it, this line will have a different status - "Internet".

Go to "Properties" and select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)." It is such a version (4) that is most often used today. Again, go to the "Properties", proceeding to the next window that opens. In it you can see the availability of current settings for your personal computer. This is where you should change the IP settings, observing some rules:

  • There are limits that are allowed for IP space. It is impossible to go beyond the set for such addresses.
  • The address you select should become unique for this local network.

In principle, it is not difficult to achieve uniqueness, otherwise the message that a conflict of Windows IP addresses has been detected will appear again and again. So, you need to change your address until the problem is completely eliminated.

If all these manipulations seem complicated to the PC user, then there is another solution to the problem. You just need to create an appeal to the technical support of your local network. Describe the problem and wait for an answer. In this case, the appropriate specialist will take care of the issue.
