What is whiskey?

Drink whiskey

The history of production of this strong drink goes far into the past. It is well known that there is a lot of debate about which country is still the parent of whiskey. For a long time, Scotland and Ireland can call him their "brainchild". But it does not go without discussions about who deserves great praise for the results of production activities.

It is believed that the art of distillation (distillation) of alcohol, the Scots borrowed many years ago from the inhabitants of the Middle East. Nevertheless, the Scots are considered to be the "parents" of the science of whiskey production. Having learned about the existence of a miracle drink, they made some adjustments to the recipe by changing its main ingredient. They were grapes, which were harvested by placing barley in its place. The newly made liquid is called "water of life."

Speaking of the name, "water of life" was too long and difficult to pronounce the phrase. At that time, residents of Western and Central Europe spoke the Celtic language. For some time, a drink was experimented with the name and later became called whiskey (whiskey).

The first creators of this drink in Scotland are monks. They distilled this type of alcohol in the most primitive ways and in small quantities. Previously, it was used only for medicinal purposes.

Other ordinary people began to learn about the new product. Soon they began to engage in independent production. But in 1579, the parliament banned the manufacture of whiskey to all people of noble blood. This attempt led only to an increase in clandestine production, which is why the number of finished whiskeys did not decrease at all.

It is worth noting that the quality of the whiskey produced by small distilleries, with which the parliament gave permission for the work, was very different from the mass-produced drink.

The result of the first work produced a product of high quality and unique taste, since all the rules, including long exposure, were observed in the manufacture. And she is the main condition for a great whiskey. And the peasants, in turn, made alcohol "through the sleeves", mixing a huge amount of low-quality swill and not sustaining the finished drink.

In addition to this legend about the occurrence of this "swill", there is also an option from the Irish. The story says that St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, opened the whiskey. Allegedly, after he landed on the beach, he began to produce "water of life" and use it to convert the Gentiles.

Grant's story

Grants History

The existence of Grant's whiskey began in 1887. The founder of the brand, William Grant, always dreamed of working in the field of alcoholic beverages. He built his first factory, which began the production of copyright tape, with his own hands. After a very short period of time, Grant's became popular among the Scots, more and more people learned about it.

Having achieved the excellent quality of adhesive tape, William wanted to tightly capture his creation in history. He asked for help from the German fugitive Hans Schleger. Their joint goal was to create such a container for whiskey that would combine convenience, elegance and originality. William wanted his product to be recognized from everywhere, not only by its excellent taste, but also by its appearance.

The result of this work made a huge contribution to the fame and prestige of the Grant's brand. Now everyone, having seen an atypical triangular bottle with a logo, recognizes an exquisite drink.

To this day, manufacturers are preparing Scotch tape, meeting the best traditions and standards of the drink. Particular attention is paid to barrels in which the whiskey is aged. Coopers pay particular attention to creating quality barrels. They use various technologies for storing scotch tape, on which the price of Grant's varieties depends in many respects.

Barrel Storage

Now this brand has more than 30 types of malt whiskey. The company is very sensitive to the choice of production raw materials. Experienced connoisseurs when tasting the Grants Scotch tape can distinguish rich tones of peach, oak, walnut and cinnamon.

Of course, based on the rich history and quality of the drink, it has a fairly high price. However, when buying great whiskey, you should be prepared to give quite large amounts of money for it.

Grants whiskey may vary in price. It all depends on the type of spiced drink, its aging and distillation conditions.

For the manufacture of this type, several varieties of the best single malt whiskey are taken, which each and every one has been aged for at least twelve years. After they are mixed, Girvan grain whiskey is added to the base of this incredible mix. It is usually aged in oak barrels, also more than twelve years. It tastes like a spicy mix of exotic fruits with elements of vanilla and honey.

Main competitors

No matter how great Grant's tape is, there are always competitors. You can even say that some of them are really superior in some way to this brand. But to compare different drinks thoroughly does not make sense, since they all have their own characteristics and disadvantages. Each one is truly unique in something.

Competitive products

Speaking about the most popular and standing brands of whiskey, we can distinguish several of Grant's main competitors:

  • Red label
  • Jack Daniels.
  • White Horse.
  • Jameson

All these alcohol brands have a high rating among consumers and many sometimes prefer Grand's Scotch tape to one of these masterpieces.

Bi-2 and whiskey

It would seem, what does the group "Bi-2" and John Grant have to do with whiskey. But, as it turned out, the soloists of the group, Shura and Leva, met John Grant at one of his Moscow concerts. Grant, an American singer and songwriter, is a big fan of Russian culture, especially music. As soon as John heard a proposal from rock artists to record a joint track, he agreed without hesitation.

The song "Bi-2" feat John Grant - "Whiskey" tells people about a certain village of Borodino, which is called Borsch according to the script of the video. The composition embodies all the delights of rural life in past years. Old huts, stove, fight of Russian men, illegal trade. Everything you can imagine.

Only now, in addition to this, the picture includes elements of the "bloody borsch" jam. Scenes with the “eating” of human limbs are openly shown in a video clip. So the faint of heart is not recommended.

In fact, the video is not connected specifically with Grant's whiskey. But there are scenes in it where Russian men are engaged in unauthorized sales of home-made whiskey. From here came the name and the main line of the chorus from the song: "What is in Irkutsk, what is in Norilsk - which Russian does not drink whiskey."

Oddly enough, the American performer John Grant is the namesake of the creator of the famous company William Grant & Sons. It turns out that the song allegedly carries a hidden subtext with a reference to the Grant's brand.

Note to browser

Any alcohol tastes good if you use it wisely and relish every sip. A person who knows the measure of himself and his preferences will always find what he likes. Whiskey is the very drink that you should try carefully and responsibly.

It is important not to spare a penny and take Scotch tape of a well-known brand, which leaves a lot of positive feedback, than once again hurry up and save. Drinking alcohol has a very negative effect on human health, and even more so if you give preference to cheap options.

Be careful when choosing adhesive tape, as recently the number of fakes in the alcohol market has increased markedly.
