Why is eucalyptus tincture so popular all over the world? It is made on an alcohol basis (70% ethyl alcohol). This clear, greenish-brown liquid with a very specific smell is familiar to many. There is rarely a house in which at least once there was no this medicine.
It has special pharmacological properties: it contains tannins, resins, flavonoids, waxes, elagic acid, essential oils (eucalyptus), which include terpene compounds that destroy gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and adversely affect protozoa and fungi. Eucalyptus effectively inhibits the growth of staphylococci, tuberculous mycobacteria, Escherichia, Trichomonas, dysenteric amoeba. The main component of this essential oil is a complex substance - cineolmonocyclic terpene. Eucalyptus - tincture has a strong disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic effect, which is due to the oxidizing effect of terpen, as well as anti-inflammatory effect, which is associated with almost all the substances in its composition. The drug has a calming (sedative) effect.
Indications for use of the eucalyptus drug are inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx, respiratory tract, oral cavity (laryngitis, tracheitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis, gingivitis), damage to the skin (infected wounds), mild neurotic disorders (emotional lability, irritability, sleep disturbance).
There are special warnings for using this medication. Due to the fact that it contains ethyl alcohol, this drug is not recommended for use by pregnant and lactating mothers. For the same reason, it cannot be used at the time of driving vehicles or when carrying out work using potentially dangerous devices.
Eucalyptus tincture has its contraindications. These include hypersensitivity to the substances contained in the drug, and the age of children under 12 years old (the latter refers to ingestion).
Most often, eucalyptus tincture is used for steam inhalation and for rinsing the mouth and throat. Recommended dosage for adults: 4 times, 15-30 drops after a meal. The dose for children is much less: 4 times 1 drop per lived year.
Rinsing the throat and oral cavity is carried out with a solution of 15 drops of the product with 200 ml of boiled warm water.
For steam inhalations, inhalers of various types are used. For this procedure, use undiluted tincture of eucalyptus. If there is no inhaler, you can use this tool with the old grandfather method: add 15 drops of the drug to 2 liters of hot water. Eucalyptus vapor is deeply inhaled, covered with a thick cloth or towel. Usually this procedure is carried out for 10 minutes.
With strong sensitivity to the components of the drug, various side effects can occur, such as allergic reactions in the form of a skin rash, redness, itching, and Quincke's edema; contact dermatitis appearing on the lips. When such reactions appear, it is necessary to stop taking the drug. This tincture in optimal conditions can be stored for up to 5 years.
