Etymology
The word “Vatsok” comes from the Russian Caucasus. It was the representatives of this region that carried it all over the Russian Federation. It literally means "brother, bro, brother" in Russian.
“Vatsok” is not a native word for all Caucasians without exception. The people who use it not as slang when it comes to talking exclusively in their native language without using it as part of Russian speech are Avars.
By the way, this word is present not only in the Avar language. What does it mean in another language? We did not find completely similar Watsoku options, but there are similar-sounding words in the Hungarian language. Vacog (Vacog) - translates as "banging your teeth." And vacak (vatsak) - is translated as "rubbish, junk." In addition, adjectives of a similar meaning (“crappy,” “nasty,” “unfit”) come from the noun vacak.
The use of the word "vatsok"
It should be noted that the word “vatsok” is most widespread among the population of Dagestan. After all, the mother tongue for the part of the people living in this republic is Avar. In scientific works on linguistics, it is specified that the Russian language of the Dagestan youth is replete with many words brought from their native language, that is, there is a process that could threaten the Avar language with assimilation. It is advantageous for young people to switch to a more prestigious language, but at the same time, a lot of social factors do not completely forget the language of their ancestors. Perhaps jargon will simply turn into Russian and that’s all.
Along with the “Watsok” jargon, Avar young people use the words “dude”, “boy”, “bro”, “brother”, “cormorant”, “brother”, “brother-in-law”, “utzi”, “stha” in the same meaning . By the way, the last two words mean the same thing as “vatsok”, only in the Dargin and Lezgin languages, respectively.
We also note that the word under study went beyond Dagestan and “walks” on the Internet, “rubbing” into the vocabulary of an increasing number of Russian-speaking people.
