One of the oldest types of physical activity is pull-ups on the horizontal bar. What is it and what are the records in this exercise? We will discuss these issues throughout the article.
What is pullup?
This exercise is known to absolutely every person. We came across him at school. Someone passed the standards for pull-ups, someone used them in bodybuilding, and some even devoted a significant part of their life to doing the exercises on the crossbar.
Who can
Classical pull-ups on the horizontal bar have always been considered quite a difficult exercise, and those who knew how to perform them well, always delighted others. How much does an average person pull up on average? Of course, we take into account only men, because this exercise is given to them much easier than women. So, if you recall the physical education lessons at school, then the average standard for a high school student was 12 times. Some, thanks to training, reach a value of 20-25 times. Finally, high-level athletes who devote a lot of time to pull-ups can give out approaches of 40-60 repetitions. Speaking on average, then every man who does at least a little sports is able to pull himself up 8-10 times.
But what is the world record for pull-ups? Many people are interested in this issue, and not only athletes. People are just wondering at what level you can develop your performance in this exercise.
Champions
In fact, there is no single record for pulling up on the horizontal bar. In this exercise, there are a huge number of nominations that have created a lot of different high achievements. In most cases, world records for pull-ups differ either in the time allotted for the exercise, or in the way they are performed. For example, repetitions with different grabs can in no way be suitable for one nomination. The female half of humanity also participated in achieving high results. First of all, when setting a record, it is supposed to determine the time period for which you need to pull up the maximum number of times.
World record for pull-ups. Types and nominations
Most of the achievements are already in the third millennium. For example, American Jason Petzold in June 2009 pulled himself 50 times in 60 seconds. Among women, the highest achievement belongs to Elicia Weber, Jason's compatriot. Her result was 37 repetitions. Also officially approved is the world record for pulling up a Vietnamese soldier. He completed 100 repetitions in 3 minutes.
Other records for pulling up on the horizontal bar were made for a much longer period of time. So, a certain Stephen Highland in 2007 performed about 2,900 repetitions in 6 hours. A repeated world champion in pull-ups, American Jason Armstrong, set several records at once for 12 and 24 hours. During this time, he pulled himself up 3165 and 3355 times, respectively. Highland also showed very good results in these nominations. Some claim that he even beat Armstrong's achievement and set a new pull-up world record.

Why is there such a small difference in results? Because, no matter how prepared the athlete, he still will not be able to pull up equally well and quickly for a long time. Most of the energy goes into the first hours, and then the result of a person depends on his will. During multiple exercises, the athlete's muscle groups begin to โclogโ very strongly. This is primarily the latissimus dorsi, as well as the biceps. Due to the long and hard work, they get a huge load. Another factor affecting the records is the condition of the athlete's palms. Everyone who at least once in their life tried to pull themselves up knows that too long visas on the crossbar can be quite painful. Therefore, there are frequent cases when athletes finish their performances precisely because of this pain.
But what is the record for pull-ups on the horizontal bar set in one approach? For men, it is about 470-500 times and is unlikely to be beaten in the near future. The Guinness record for pull-ups belongs to the Russian Nikolai Kaklimov, who managed to complete 844 repetitions in an hour.
Requirements
What conditions must be met when adopting world records for pull-ups? Of course, it is necessary to say about the quality of execution. All of the above records are distinguished by unsurpassed technology. Now there are many unofficial records in which serious violations were made (jerking, swinging, incomplete pull-ups). All this is not allowed when setting records. Pullups should be performed only due to muscle contractions, smoothly and confidently. Also, no changes in the amplitude of movements are allowed. They should come from the lower point (hanging on straightened arms) to the upper (chin above the crossbar). Athletes who set records for any long-term period of time are allowed to do as many approaches as they like and relax freely between them. The result is recorded only after the time allotted to the athlete expires, or he himself announces the termination of his work.
How to achieve the highest results?
A world record for pull-ups is an absolutely unattainable result for ordinary people. Why? Because you have to make an incredible amount of effort and a lot of time to achieve such success. People who set the highest achievements have spent most of their lives on this. This is not one or two years of training. Therefore, we will continue to admire the amazing approach of the champions!
