The name of Alexander Legkov is known to everyone who is fond of winter sports. The triumph of the Olympic Games in Sochi, one of the leaders of the Russian national team, a brilliant athlete - all this is about him. The life of the skier will be discussed in this article.
A brief biography of the athlete
Legkov Alexander was born on 05/07/1983 in the small town of Krasnoarmeysk, located in the Moscow region. All members of his family loved sports. Mom held the position of physical education teacher in one of the local schools, and her father was passionate about hockey and football; brother of the future skier since childhood was engaged in biathlon.
Perhaps it was papa’s passion for hockey that led to the fact that the younger Legkov began to engage in it. Alexander, however, for family reasons, after some time was not able to continue attending training, despite the fact that the mentors noted the boy’s great abilities.
At the age of 15-16, the future Olympic champion began to engage in biathlon, like his older brother. His mentor was V. Zagulov. In 2001, the famous athlete Yuri Borodavko, who trained many famous athletes, became an athlete’s coach.
In 2002, Legkov began to perform in skiing. From that moment began his professional career. After four years of participation in the competition, the first successes came to the young athlete. Since then, prizes at the World Cup and other major competitions have become, if not habitual, then completely logical results, and the coaching staff has secured a place for the skier in the Russian national team.
Personal life
Sporting successes influenced not only Alexander's professional career. He had numerous fans. Imagine their disappointment when the skier got married in 2012. Since then, the personal life of Alexander Legkov is inextricably linked with the name of Tatyana Guseva.
Athletes are often very superstitious, so the newlyweds for a long time did not tell anyone about their plans and the upcoming grand event. They reported the wedding to only the closest relatives and friends just a week before the celebration.
The wife of Alexander Legkov in every possible way supports the spouse. He devoted his main sports victory to her. As the athlete notes, many of his successful performances are Tatyana’s merit.
Hobby skier
A very versatile person is the Olympic champion Legkov. Alexander, by virtue of his profession, is forced to always be in excellent physical shape. However, for a person who plays sports at the highest level for more than a third of his life, this is not difficult. Therefore, it is not surprising that the hobby of a skier is running in the mountains, the so-called “trail running”. According to the athlete, his passion for running is by no means a fad. Rather, it is a good habit that gives the skier great pleasure. In this regard, the athlete was happy to accept a business offer from Adidas about an open running training with everyone and journalists.
Alexander prefers not to play sports to music. He notes that it is important to listen to the sensations in the body during exercise, and extraneous sounds can interfere with this.
Like any man, Legkov loves to eat deliciously. The athlete says that he does not deny himself food, no matter what he wants. Due to the tremendous physical exertion, Alexander chooses food with a lot of carbohydrates to restore energy. He always has a rich breakfast and lunch, does not adhere to any special diet.
Achievements and titles
Skier Alexander Legkov began to show high results from the first season of performances in professional sports. In 2006-2007 the athlete took second place in the World Cup, losing only to German T. Angerer.
In 2007, it was Legkov who brought the silver relay team to the Russian relay team. Alexander showed the next triumphant result in 2013, when he won the famous Tour de Ski multi-day race.
However, the Olympic year 2014 became the most successful year in the skier’s sports career. It was in Sochi that Legkov won two medals at once: silver in the men's 4 x 10 km relay, and also ahead of all his rivals at the most prestigious distance - a 50 km marathon.
The athlete continues to train hard and declares that he is not going to end his career, after which he plans to develop skiing in our country.
