The Oscar film award is the most prestigious award that a cinema worker can receive. It is always awarded based on the results of the previous year, so the best films made in 2016 were awarded at a recent ceremony.
In total, awards in 25 nominations are presented at the ceremony: 24 Oscar nominations for best work at various stages of film production, plus an honorary award from the Academy.
Cinema is a complex work that requires the efforts of a huge number of people. Therefore, it does not make sense to discuss all the Oscar nominations, since it will be too long and tiring, it is better to focus on a few of the main awards of this ceremony, which gave viewers and critics a lot of surprises.
Best movie
The most important award of the ceremony is the nomination for the best film “Oscar”, which is presented at the very end and which most viewers are waiting for. It is worth noting that this year a funny situation happened at the presentation: the presenter mixed up the envelopes and named the wrong film, announcing the winner. He himself says that he accidentally fell into the hands of a piece of paper where it read "La La Land", so he, a little embarrassed, just read what was written.
A minute later, this trouble was corrected, the host apologized and named the real winner - the film "Moonlight". The La La Landa film crew was slightly discouraged, but this did not spoil their mood, because the film was already the leader in the number of statuettes this year: in all, he received six awards in various categories.
Speaking about the film “Moonlight”, it should be noted that the picture is very worthy in all respects, however, many viewers question the decision of the academicians, because “La La Land” was not only worthy, but incredibly good, and it seemed that no one will be able to compete with him. One way or another, nothing can already be changed, so you have to come to terms with the fact that the Oscar goes to the Moonlight.
The film itself tells about the hard life of a black boy who grew up in a disadvantaged area of Miami. Friends, family problems betray him, but the hardest test is accepting himself.
Best Director
Regarding this Oscar nomination, no one had a single drop of doubt as to who would take the award, and in this case the public’s expectations were justified. The statuette was taken by the author of a magnificent musical about true love in the atmosphere of old Hollywood - Damien Chazell. His film “La La Land” became a real sensation this year.
The plot of the film describes the novel of a fanatical jazz musician and a frivolous novice actress, who repeatedly goes to unsuccessful interviews in the hope of gaining a role and become famous.
The film was shot in the musical genre, which was a rather risky step, because the era of musicals has long passed, and the director assumed great responsibility for the success of this film. Nevertheless, all expectations were justified, the tape turned out to be so successful that hardly even one spectator was found who left the cinema without a feeling of lightness, fun and enthusiasm. The box office confirms this once again: with a budget of $ 30 million, the film collected more than 350 million.
In addition to this award, the film took the following Oscar nominations: the best soundtrack, which, of course, could not be otherwise, because it is a musical, the best song is for the main theme of the film called City of Stars, and the best work of the production designer. Also, the tape was marked with a figurine for camera work, and the main actress - Emma Stone - received an award in the nomination "Best Actress".
Best animated film
Of the full-length cartoons this year, not so many paintings were remembered, however, there was one truly noticeable and worthy of attention. This, of course, is the film “Zootopolis”, which, without feeling any serious competition, took the figurine in the nomination “Best Animated Film”.
In fairness, it is worth noting that other films of the Oscar nomination were also very good. Such ribbons as: “Red Turtle”, “Life of a Zucchini”, “Cubo. The Legend of Samurai ”and“ Moana ”.
Best original script
One of the most worthy films of the past year is rightfully considered the picture of the director Kenneth Lonergan - “Manchester by the Sea”. An interesting fact is that the director of the film simultaneously acted as a screenwriter, so the figurine went to him.
The film itself tells the story of an ordinary plumber who learns that due to the death of his brother, he is now appointed guardian of his nephew. This is a very deep drama, which will not leave indifferent any viewer.
In addition to the award in the Oscar nomination - “Best Original Screenplay”, the film also received a figurine for the best male role played by Casey Affleck.
Finally
Oscar is the most prestigious film award, therefore, people awarded this prize will always remain in the hall of fame of world cinema, which means that their work really deserves attention.
