After some time, the Vorobiev family moved to Baku to rescue from hunger, where they lived from 1928 to 1933. Later there was a move to Tataria (Tetyushinsky district); it was there that passed the childhood and youth of Arcadia. The teacher of physical education instilled a love of sports to a boy who dreamed of becoming a military man and who devoted much time to physical training since childhood. He is the only local teenager to swim across the Volga.

Hard years, years of war

With the outbreak of the war, Arkady Vorobyov, perfectly prepared physically, was eager for the front. However, because of his young age, he was not accepted into the army, but was sent to undergo a young fighter course, and then to the school of divers in Gelendzhik. After its completion, Arkady still got to the front and served in the Black Sea Fleet as a sailor of the Marine Corps. In confirmation of his feat, when he was the first to lead a company in an attack at the mouth of the Danube River, he was awarded the Medal “For Courage”.

The beginning of the sports path

The war ended, and in 1946 Arkady Vorobyev returned to Odessa, where he took part in the restoration of the port and mine clearance of the surrounding water area. As part of the USSR national weightlifting team, a talented athlete performed from 1949 to 1962. At the same time, he managed to get higher education, graduating in Sverdlovsk, where at that time his mother lived, a medical institute and becoming a graduate student of the Department of Physiology. At the end of his sports career, he took up coaching. In 1962 he defended his thesis. In 1970, Arkady Nikitich became a doctor of medical sciences.

Work in a leadership position

Arkady Vorobyev, whose biography is full of outstanding events thanks to the incredible perseverance and hard work of this ingenious person, until 1977 headed the Weightlifting Department at the Central Institute of Physical Culture, where he trained 50 doctors and candidates of science who today successfully work in various sports organizations in Russia and around the world.

The experiments carried out on oneself, understanding of the correct conduct of sports training, knowledge of the athlete’s physical abilities and methods for increasing them all helped Arkady Nikitich and his teammates on the way to the top of fame.

Arkady Vorobiev, whose knowledge was in demand by sports federations, often met with graduates and students; within the walls of the Moscow Academy of Physical Culture held its 80th and 85th anniversaries. Many people who knew this beautiful, highly educated man were amazed at how he managed to recover so quickly after his first heart attack; this fact spoke of incredible fortitude and tremendous love of life. Arkady Nikitich Vorobyov died in 2012 at the age of 89.
