Arkady is a native of a peasant family, respected in the district for his remarkable physical strength.
Born in the Tambov region, in the village of Mordovo. Mother - Praskovya Aleksandrovna, father - Nikita Yakovlevich, considered together with his two sons - Arkady and Boris - the famous fist fighter in the district. Arkady also had an older sister, Nina.
After some time, the Vorobiev family moved to Baku to rescue from hunger, where they lived from 1928 to 1933. Later there was a move to Tataria (Tetyushinsky district); it was there that passed the childhood and youth of Arcadia. The teacher of physical education instilled a love of sports to a boy who dreamed of becoming a military man and who devoted much time to physical training since childhood. He is the only local teenager to swim across the Volga.
Hard years, years of war
With the outbreak of the war, Arkady Vorobyov, perfectly prepared physically, was eager for the front. However, because of his young age, he was not accepted into the army, but was sent to undergo a young fighter course, and then to the school of divers in Gelendzhik. After its completion, Arkady still got to the front and served in the Black Sea Fleet as a sailor of the Marine Corps. In confirmation of his feat, when he was the first to lead a company in an attack at the mouth of the Danube River, he was awarded the Medal “For Courage”.
In 1944, he was awaited by the Order of the Patriotic War II degree for the implementation of a responsible mission in the battalion of the Marine Corps.
The beginning of the sports path
The war ended, and in 1946 Arkady Vorobyev returned to Odessa, where he took part in the restoration of the port and mine clearance of the surrounding water area. This was a very dangerous occupation: I had to look for bombs, the weight of which sometimes reached a ton, and to neutralize them. In his free time, the young man visited the pier to poison bikes with sailors and watch how champion Semyon lifted the bar (which served as the axis from the trolley), lying there and respectfully called "the axis from the carriage of Empress Elizabeth." Not fully believing in his capabilities, Vorobyov decided to develop them. From that debut day, he began to constantly come to the pier and practice with the barbell. Semyon became his idol, stimulating the young man to the result. A month after the start of classes, Vorobyov, who refused alcohol and cigarettes for the purpose, equalized in strength with Semyon and raised the same weight. Then there were training sessions at the Vodnik Sports Club, passing the standard “USSR Master of Sports”, winning the title “Champion of the Black Sea Fleet” in Sevastopol.
Record after record!
In 1952, Arkady Vorobiev, whose photo is presented in the article, became the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, and after 12 years received the title of Honored Trainer of the USSR.
During this time period, the athlete managed to win twice in the Summer Olympic Games in light heavyweight (1956 - Melbourne, 1960 - Rome); as a team captain, the USSR managed to win championships: 5 world, 5 European, 10 all-Union. Also on the account of Vorobyov’s records: 37 all-Union and 21 world. Among the Soviet weight lifters, Arkady Nikitich is the leader in the total number of awards won in the international arena.
As part of the USSR national weightlifting team, a talented athlete performed from 1949 to 1962. At the same time, he managed to get higher education, graduating in Sverdlovsk, where at that time his mother lived, a medical institute and becoming a graduate student of the Department of Physiology. At the end of his sports career, he took up coaching. In 1962 he defended his thesis. In 1970, Arkady Nikitich became a doctor of medical sciences.
Work in a leadership position
Arkady Vorobyev, whose biography is full of outstanding events thanks to the incredible perseverance and hard work of this ingenious person, until 1977 headed the Weightlifting Department at the Central Institute of Physical Culture, where he trained 50 doctors and candidates of science who today successfully work in various sports organizations in Russia and around the world.
In 1977, Vorobyov was appointed rector at the Moscow Regional State Institute of Physical Culture. With his arrival in a higher educational institution, scientific and sports activities sharply intensified. Most of the scientific ideas expressed a sufficient number of years ago by Arkady Vorobyov are relevant to this day.
From the post of rector Vorobyov was sent on a well-deserved rest in 1991 - a time of trouble for the country, when the authorities did not welcome the upholding of vital positions. During this difficult period, he still continued to engage in social activities, was one of the organizers of the rehabilitation center for Chernobyl children. For some time Arkady Nikitich headed the scientific council of the Sports Committee of Russia.
Work! To study! Train!
Enormous work, great responsibility, perseverance in achieving the goal, self-confidence and love for his country allowed Vorobyov, whose life motto was: “Work! To study! Train! ”, Achieve significant success in their activities. As a physician, he delved deeply into the essence of competitive and training activities in order to scientifically substantiate the process of planning training loads. Coaches from many countries learned his methods. It was to sport in general and weightlifting in particular that he gave all his experience and acquired knowledge. The experiments carried out on oneself, understanding of the correct conduct of sports training, knowledge of the athlete’s physical abilities and methods for increasing them all helped Arkady Nikitich and his teammates on the way to the top of fame.
Arkady Vorobiev, whose knowledge was in demand by sports federations, often met with graduates and students; within the walls of the Moscow Academy of Physical Culture held its 80th and 85th anniversaries. Many people who knew this beautiful, highly educated man were amazed at how he managed to recover so quickly after his first heart attack; this fact spoke of incredible fortitude and tremendous love of life. Arkady Nikitich Vorobyov died in 2012 at the age of 89.

Merits of Arkady Vorobyov
In 2009, the Moscow City Council of War and Labor Veterans Arkady Vorobyov was awarded the title of Honorary Veteran of the city of Moscow. He was also an honorary citizen of the Lyubertsov of the Moscow Region and the city of Tetyushi in Tatarstan. A bronze bust of the famous athlete is set in Moscow, on the Alley of Sports Glory of CSKA.
