Data Warehouse: Device and Uses

A data warehouse is a system that stores large amounts of information. It includes such components as stand-alone software (hereinafter referred to as the software), information storage facilities (drives), and also communication facilities. All this is in a separate block.

Network storage is an integral element of a home or office local area network designed to provide continuous access to personal or business information.

Data store
Let's consider in more detail the components that make up any data warehouse. Independent software organizes recording, storage and delivery of information. Its basis is composed of:
- internal operating system NAS;
- antivirus software;
- software that provides data exchange;
- Software for organizing RAID-arrays, designed to increase the reliability of the system;
- other service software.

Information storage media consists of several high-capacity hard drives (usually 3-5 pcs.), Located in one block. Since the storage operating system (hereinafter referred to as the OS) does not allow the creation of logical drives, i.e. The OS installed on one of the hard drives excludes it from the list of drives, then a flash card or other solid state drive (the so-called SSD drive) is used as bootable media.
Communication tools are designed to determine how the data warehouse will communicate with the user. Possible connection options include:
- Wired connection using the TCP / IP protocol. In this case, the internal processor processes file requests up to the NAS command level. Allowed user distance is 10 km.
- A wireless connection, which is built on standard Wi-Fi technology and has a limitation on the power of transceiver devices, as well as on overload by means of information protection.

Network attached storage
Network data storages have an almost unlimited scope: from storing multimedia files to collecting information from surveillance cameras. The main advantage is that the information gets into the data warehouse, bypassing user processors. This is made possible by an internal processor that processes it.
Thus, data warehouses have a number of advantages, the main one being the ability to offload the hardware capacities of user computers from routine operations, such as writing and reading a large amount of information, controlling the execution and monitoring of network operations on the Internet or local area networks, playback and recording multimedia files.
Network Attached Storage
It is also worth noting that due to the fact that high-speed data transfer systems in global networks are currently being developed, as well as systems for storing large amounts of information, specialized repositories - file hosting began to appear. Their essence lies in the provision of paid services: secure storage of information, structuring and information retrieval. Some hosting services are used as intermediaries when buying / selling information.
It is obvious that all areas of data warehouse use will be further developed, each in its own market segment.
